okay, connected....and one heckuva good movie:
just a couple hints, this was remade in 1990 with Mickey Rourke play Bogey's part and Anthony Hopkins playing the criminally forgotten Fredric March's role.

You are correct on both counts, the great Gig Young connecting them. I haven't seen the 1990 remake either, but the critics weren't kind.
This one is connected but the connection is a bit obscure.

Being sneaky! first response would have been 3 Musketeers except for a pubescent Mark Lester hovering in the background. This was Crossed Swords, connected by the great Raquel Welch. I think it was called The Prince & The Pauper in UK.
I'd never heard of the "Crossed Swords" title. I only know it as the Prince and thr Pauper. Mark Lester in his gawky teen years.
I was a big geek when that came out, bought the soundtrack album, already a huge fan of the 3 and 4 musketeer movies. My soundtrack album is also called Crossed Swords.
