I decided to go with the wipe on poly. I soaked the handle submerged for about 20 minutes for the first coat then six subsequent coats followed.
I may still buff with steel wool and wax after about a week. The pictures don't do it justice, its a great looking finish.

That looks fantastic. I've been struggling with my CA finishes lately. Do you mind sharing the exact product you used. Also does it have strong fumes or is it pretty decent to work with in a basement.
