Graduation Present

I have one of these and use it as my daily razor; it was a RAD killer for me. My 19 year old son started University this year. He has been into traditional wet shaving with a DE almost from when he began shaving, a couple of years ago. I was able to pick up a cased Darwin Deluxe on a famous auction site just now. I plan to just pack it away (after a test run) and surprise him in about 3 years, on graduation day. I'm stoked!

A great idea. I snagged a '60s vintage Cross pen & pencil set for my oldest son and held onto it for a few years until he got his Mech E degree. His grandfather always said that that was what the engineers carried where he worked back in the '60s and so I thought that he'd like them and the story - he did. BTW - I'm an engineer and I use fountain pens, so go figure.

BTW - Alex will like it too, it will give him three years to try and do a deal with you.:001_smile

So YOU beat me!!! Damnit! I was number 2.... sorry to bump you up. I ***really*** wanted it. But apparently not fast enough on the fingers

Congrats :biggrin1:

Yea...I get it. I knew I would find a bidder here, but was worried that it would be me congratulating him.

Keep looking, they're worth it.

PS: I only have one son, so I'm out of the market.

Congrats on the score! Missed out at the last second too. Glad to see someone here got it. One day I will have the right price at the right time:blink:

Congrats I would be thrilled to recieve this as a gift. I watched your Darwin, but ending up buying his English Open comb Aristocrat instead. :biggrin1:

Joe, I haven't seen a post from you since we spoke shortly after you got your first Darwin. I'm glad you were able to score this one to complete a really cool story. I was watching this one (and his other razors) and I must say, I'm jealous. I wish I had the blade case and blades for my Darwin. I will get blades but that case is hard to come by. Out of curiosity, has your son ever used your Darwin? Anyway, congrats! Hopefully you will post some pics of it before you pack it up.

Yep...he has used mine and liked it. If he is like me, after a few weeks with it, he'll be hooked (like I know you are). I know he'll appreciate it for what it is. I was just telling someone tonight that his favorite music genre is 40's "big band" stuff....so there you go. I'll post some pics for sure, but it will actually be Spring before I see it....when I visit the States, where I had it shipped. Good to hear from you!

I'm back to brag a little. My son was back from Spring Break from Cardiff University and just left this morning to go back to school. While here, he got notice that he was accepted to his first choice school...Bristol Law School! Well, I couldn't wait after that news, so he got his Darwin a little early. He claims he is going to wait to shave with it until after graduation in a couple of months. Such restraint. Must have got that from his mother. I'll take more pics when he gets home again. In the interim, here's a pic of me with my hero (Grand Daddy) sometime in the early 60's. It's a B&W photo that was colorized/painted by my mother. Anyone remember painted photos? L8r.

That is an awesome story! My sons are early in their college careers (one is actually still in HS). They both own pre-war Techs. When they graduate, I'm fairly certain they will not be receiving Darwins!
Perhaps an English Gillette RFB NEW ...
