GOTTA 120 Super fine questions

Hi, I hope I'm posting in the correct location, couple of question if I may.
Just bought this gotta 120 for £9.99 which seems fair to me, I'm very green to shaving btw.
Do any of you know how old it is and also from the pictures does it look in reasonable condition? A good base for bringing back to life and getting razor sharp again? There are no nicks, ding or chips, your answers and help are very much welcomed. Thank you

Well, it's got a boatload of hone wear. It may well be able to be brought to shaving condition, but it is getting close to the end IMO. Not a bad razor to learn something about honing on though.

Yeah, lots of wear, but they are very good razors. That will shave and be fine to learn with.

I notice there are different sizes of hollow grinds on the gotta 120, if to you look at this one here it seems obvious my blade never started out like that. The hollow on mine is much further from the top, the spine on mine is 6mm wide also, thanks

Stick some tape on the spine, it'll be fine.
I've bought razors from barbers that were basically communion wafers & most of the razors I've bought have been chunks of rust that ended up shaving fine or better -
No razor left behind ! lol.
The edge looks ok. Take a look through a loupe or some sort of magnification to see it there are any chips.

As said above loads of hone wear, but they are great razors and put some tape on the spine and hone it.
Now this is how your razor should look so now you can see what we mean about hone wear.

Just got myself one of these beauties. Unfortunately, someone decided he/she could do a better job at removing the rust at the point than I could, so they just sandpapered it into oblivion, without any regard for the beautiful stamp.

I find it quite curious how similar these Gotta razors are to my beautiful "Kram", which is actually one of the finest and best shaving razors I own, there's just something special about it. Kind of like when you use a Filarmonica, different personalities, but the same quality.

I too find them to be a great razor, I have three :)
They appear to have been quite common here in New Zealand.

In case you go looking for more info I believe they were made by Grah & Plumacher around the 1930s

They were common is Aus too. I've had at least ten over the years, probably more like fifteen.

I turned a chipped one into a shorty with ivory scales not long ago.
