What's new

Got some Witch Hazel, however.

Well,
I got some Witch Hazel at the Dollar store for well.. a Buck.. And I must say, I love the results of using it but WOW plain old witch hazel smells horribly..

Is there anything I can do to make my plain witch hazel not smell so bad? Or do I just continue using it as is or contribute to my AD and buy a better smelling one?

I thought it smelled pretty bad, but then I got used to it. It doesn't bother me anymore. Give yourself a few weeks to adjust to it. If you still don't like it, get one that smells better.

Mix in some Old Spice or some other A/S. I personally pay extra for Thayers. Doesn't smell bad at all.

I am in the same situation with dollar store witch hazel. I have put lemon essential oil to scent it. Problem solved.

I've got T.N.Dickinson's Witch hazel (with alcohol) that is sold everywhere down here as a toner for women, and I have an alcohol free one.

They each have a very mild scent which quickly disappears. I'm trying to fathom what could smell horrible in the one you bought. If you buy the Witch Hazel marketed for women's use, I doubt they would smell in any way horrible.

I can't really explain the odor.. And to be honest, I just opened it for the second time and sniffed it straight out of the bottle, and it didn't smell half as bad as the first time I used it.. Maybe I just wasn't expecting the odor the first time and it caught me off guard?

How do you gents put on your witch hazel? I've heard of guys using a small spray bottle, and what I did was just apply it like an AS.

I just apply it like an AS splash as well.

Small bottle, filled about 80% WH, topped off with Clubman or what have you. Splash it on like it was the cheap stuff it is ;)

I also use T.N.Dickinson's Witch hazel (with alcohol) which I find to have a mild pleasant scent.

I've never really noticed Dickinson's WH having a scent, pleasant or not. I do like the idea of mixing AS with it though. I can't help but think I'm just splashing bottled water on my face when I use it.

I use Dickinson's too and the smell is not great. Luckily it only lasts a few seconds and I usually top it with a AS or balm.
