Got several Fatboys....

and I plan to give them away as Christmas gifts to my brothers-in-law.

They are of an '59 vintage E1, E3 (removable end caps). They have been properly cleaned. (Scrubbing Bubbles, Boiling Water, and Ultrasonics)Their appearance can be considered as good but I would like them to look spectacular.

I am considering replating them in either bright nickel or gold.

What are your toughts about it? I value your opinion.

do you have pics? if they look like new after you've cleaned them i'd say you're golden. not sure if replating them would be worth it. are your in-laws fellow wetshavers?

Welcome to B&B, Personally I am not a big fan of re-plating vintage razors. Have you polished them? I use Maas and you would be amazed at the results.

im against the replate too - you can get vintage gold (ie executive) fatboys. It would probably be cheaper to get a really nice one of them than to strip and replate an old one anyway

No, they are not, however my intention is to introduce them to it. About 2 years ago I gave them a boar brush with a mug and some Col. Conk's Soap in it. This year I'll give them the razors along with an Art of Shaving Starter Kit and some Derby Blades.

With all due respect here, how can you say that getting 4 executive's (in any condition) is cheaper than replating 4 regular Fatboys? Please tell where you get yours because I do not think where even talking in the same ballpark here.

As of yet, I have not won the lottery.

I would go with nickel. I think it will hold it's plating longer and look nicer.
