What's new

Got my Prairie Creations Order!

Friday when I got how from work I had a nice surprise waiting; a box of shaving stuff from Krissy!

The box already smelled wonderful so I couldn't wait to rip into the box. I had ordered the following tallow shaving soaps (all are made with Aloe):
Cedar
Vanilla Extract
Essential Oil Blend (Lavender EO, Peppermint EO, Tea Tree EO and Eucalyptus EO)

I also ordered Krissy's Golden Balm and a Shea Body Butter (for SWMBO).

Krissy also included a sample of her Spiced Rum tallow shaving soap, her Teak and Sandalwood Aftershave balm and a bar of her bath soap. It was the Spiced Rum and the bath soap that made the box smell so good!

The scents of the shaving soaps, for me, are rated in this order:
Essential Oil - Very nice scent, minty with a hint of lavender
Spiced Rum - A nice strong scent to this one, very spicey! I like!
Vanilla Extract - I didn't want a sweet buttercream scent, Krissy delivered. Much more like sniffing vanilla extract.
Cedar - Not at all what I was expecting but not bad either. To me it is smokey and woody and my wife says she gets a bit of a spice hint.

So on Saturday, I gave the Cedar soap a go. Prep was a hot shower while my scuttle was full of hot water to warm it up and my brush, Rooney 3/1, was soaking in the scuttle.
I shook out the brush and started swirling it on the cedar soap. It took longer to load the brush than it normally does when I use Tabac but it didn't take much longer.
I put a little water in the bowl of my scuttle and started building lather. Like all new soaps, the water/soap ratio is tricky sometimes but I did not find it so with this soap. I got a nice amount of thick creamy lather that looked like it would be enough for a 3 pass shave.
The lather on my face was slick and had great cushion. My rinses between passes showed how slick this soap is; my face was very slippery with the first splash of water.
I finished my third pass and found that I had more than enough lather for a 4th pass so I did a 4th - what the heck?!

I finished off with a hot water rinse and then a cold water rinse to close my pores. Then I used Krissy's Golden balm. I really like the balm! I absorbed quickly and left my face feeling great with no irritation. This stuff is a winner!

I am really happy with Krissy's shaving soap. Great shave and it looks like this puck will last a real long time. Krissy was also great to work with. She put up with all my questions and requests and considering that it is just her dealing with all this (making product, customer service, order filling, etc.) she is a class act! :thumbup1:

I will be concentrating on the cedar soap for a few shaves before moving onto the other scents but I will post back once I try the others.

Krissy's soaps are excellent. I've used my Lavender EO almost exclusively for the last month or two. Excellent product.

The Golden ASB is WONDERFUL. Such a quick absorber and it is so benifitial. I hope you continue to enjoy!

Did you get the Lavender scent for your balm? I'm all ready to place another order for the balm in some other scents! :w00t:

My balm is unscented. I got 2 oz to try it out. When I reorder, I intend to get the Lavender EO, though. The balm really is wonderful.

Gotcha. I bought this blind based on a recommendation from Sluggo in an earlier thread and I am glad I did! I'm actually thinking about getting some more balm made with the Essential Oil blend and maybe Spiced Rum!

I'm interested in the EO blend as a summer soap for sure. I'd love to hear that it rivals MB Awakenings in terms of freeze....

I will let you know what I think of the EO blend once I give it a go but I have not tried Awakenings so I won't be able to compare. :frown:

Krissy makes the straight Peppermint EO strong and it is quite chilling. I got the golden balm in peppermint and my wife says when i have freshly put it on that it makes her eyes sting from across the room!

I agree with you on the Cedar. It's not what I thought it would be (I was thinking cedar wood chips)--it's much more dark and rubbery.

I've grown to like it, though. Next time I'll probably go with Lavender

I am starting to like it more as well. My next one will probably be spiced rum.

The Spiced Rum is great. I love the smell and have been using it exclusively for about three weeks and havent put a dent in it on top yet. I face lather and found out it needs just a littlt more water. I think that's because it is so rich. I have Tabac and I feel that it out perfors the Tabac in every respect. Hats off to Krissy. She started from scratch and is on her way to becoming Queen.

+1 on the more water. Like every new soap I try, I always go through that soap and water ratio learning curve. Krissy's soaps seem to like a bit more water. I love the lather! rich and thick!
This morning I decided to try the Vanilla Extract soap. I know vanilla is not everyone's cup of tea but if you like vanilla, get this soap. Wow, what a great scent!

I used the EO Blend today for the second time for my girlfriend's armpits. I concur with needing more water. The lather is excellent but I still feel I haven't hit the 'spot' with it yet.
I'm really hoping she gets more Essential Oil's in her repertoire. Fragrance oils are nice but I've been spoiled by my girlfriend and the spa school she went to recently, I'm noticing what a huge difference there is between 'fake' smells and 'real' smells, if one could put it so crudely.
Plus, essential oils actually do things for the skin.
Bottom line, awesome soap!
