What's new

Got my first straight razor!

So I recently bought a shavette and started shaving with it. It came naturally to me and I found it quite easy to get a smooth shave with this type of razor (having only used disposables and safety razors). I recently acquired (kind-of), a restored vintage razor that it shave ready that I liked mainly because of the design and look of the razor. Stamped on the tang is
"Frederick's Celebrated Razor Sheffield"
Can anyone tell me anything about this razor from experience? I've tried to do my fair share of research, but I figured I'd post here too. Thanks!

My guess would be it's a Frederick Reynold's

Nice straight!

It is a Fredrick Reynolds. They were a well regarded maker out of Sheffield. Up there with Wade & Butcher and Joseph Rodgers. You have a very nice English blade there. Enjoy it!

Nice Razor! Frederick Reynolds is one Sheffield razor I've never shaved with, but I hear they're wonderful shavers...enjoy!! :thumbup1:

As others have pointed out, it is probably a reynolds. Ive had my fair share of sheffield straights, now im down to 2 and i can tell you they work great. If there are any other stamps on the other side of the tang it might be helpful to estimate the age of the straight. But i have rarely seen a vintage sheffield with a tang stamped on both sides. Anyways that is a beautiful razor and takes a great edge. May it serve you well!
Tc and happy shaving!

If there's no mention of England on the stamp then it'll be old, pre 1890 I believe? Someone can probably chime in with a more accurate date

That is right. Thanks for pointing it out!
And since it has a slight hollow grind(does it?) it was made after...1870? I need to start reading again....
