ok so i walked to the local antique store and found a gold super adjustable with date codes of O and 4 i am guessing its a 1969 model, but not sure. also are the gold models rare or worth any more than the normal one. any info would be great
Based on how often they're seen here and on eBay, I'd say the gold SA's are more valuable than the typical chrome (or whatever) plated ones. And at that price, it's an absolute steal.
The gold version was only in production from the 4th quarter of 1969 through 1970. Beyond that I suspect it's discontinuation had something to do with the price of gold and the U.S. going off the gold standard in 1971. That's a thin plating of 23K gold, over the nickel, with a lacquer coating over that. Cleaning is limited. No special metal polishes or scrubbing bubbles.
It was in production for at least eight years or more in a nickel-colored version of the one you have, longer than the Slim or Fat Boy. Beyond that it was in production up to 1986 or later in a thrifted, lighter weight version.
It doesn't seem to get as much attention as the Slim or Fat Boy for whatever reason.
