Gillette Superspeeds

What kind of shave do the vintage superspeeds give. I am a newbie and am looking for a razor that gives me a less than aggressive shave. I currently have a Merkur HD. Thanks

Mark:confused:

Any vintage Super speed is known to be a rather mild shaver. I started out with a Merkur HD myself and though it gave me fine shaves, once I tried a Flair tip Superspeed the Merkur HD was put away.

Been using the Super Speed since and love it. Would highly recommend one.

Mild shaves from the 1940's Super Speeds and they are EXCELLENT quality razors. I have never tried the later models but I am sure they are great.

Thank you for the information. Now this may be a silly question, by where is the best place to find such an instrument?

40's, 50's Super Speeds both great, take your pick. Try several blades to get your best combo, and rock on!

Missed that part, Buy Sell Trade Forum here will get you the most reliable quality and price, but you must be fast, they often sell quickly. eBay is a good option too if you're eBay savvy (I've bought all 12 of mine there in the last 2 months).

I'd definitely suggest lurking around the B/S/T forums here for a bit. You can find them on ebay too, but from what I have seen you are more likely to get a better price here.

It's a fine choice. I have 7 or so, from the '47 to my bday year '78. All work well. I think my fave is the 40s style just because it's a bit older, but you can't go wrong.

Except if you live on the Left Coast, like I do, and by the time you wake up all the razors you'd like to buy are gone :)

Been trying to buy a '40s SS in good condition for some time now... Oh well...

They are great shavers. The 40's SS is really my "go to" razor of choice. If you want something even milder, try to track down a British "rocket" flairtip. Also very nice but slightly less aggressive.

Or you could just get an adjustable and dial it right back...

I've got a Slant, a Futur and a 1960 Super Speed flare-tip; the Super Speed gives the most comfortable shave of the bunch.
