Gillette slim won't open

The twist at the bottom has a little play, maybe a millimeter. Am I doing something wrong? The silo doors do not seem to be fouled. Thanks

You may have some luck soaking the razor in warm soapy water over night. You may only have some dried crud stopping the innards from moving freely.

Best of luck with this razor.

Thanks off to try than now. I am looking forward to shaving with this one

Is this something that just happened, or did you just buy the razor?

I agree, it is probably crud related . . . no offense if you have had this razor for years!! Soap scum and mineral deposits do build up in the internals over time, even with the best of care along the way.

Soaking in hot, soapy water is a start to getting the gunk loose - getting it out is another problem. I have had good luck (after soaking) with spraying WD-40 around the center shaft (razor open, handle pointed down) and letting it soak through the "innards" and drip out the bottom. Along the way, it will take some of the softened gunk with it.

Hope you get it working again!!

Hope the soaking has helped.

If the slim in question is the same one in 3 razors, need ID, then as you mostly know, beware that it looks like it may have a blade in it. (Not a bad idea to always treat any razor like it is loaded till you have checked).

Also did not think of this till this morning, looking at the slim from the bottom, the TTO knob will turn counterclockwise to open. If it is closed completely then it may turn with some resistance for part of the first turn as this model as well as the fatboy have a spring loaded locking mechanism in the handle that you can feel at the end of the closing motion.

Good luck….

Bath and mineral oil didn't work. I think it might be something internal. This razor is on the back burner. Purchased 2 more slims today that are both fully funtional. Thanks fo the help.

I would be more than happy to take a look at it for you @ no charge (except for return postage) - pm me if I can be of help!
