Gillette Slim 1st Shave

Picked up a slim on BST for $25!!! Its in great shape. I have never used a vintage razor or adjustable. Popped in a feather set to 5 and went at it. The slim delivered a lot more than I was expecting. What a great razor i,ve spent $150 + on a modern razor that wont deliver half the shave!!! Its gotta solid place in my rotation. I,ve ordered a fatboy and a futur cant wait to see which one is king of the adjustables!!!
I think i will open the slim up more for tommorows shave where do yall like to set it do you adjust during shaves?:thumbup1:

On the other hand, I bought my first Slim (that I can be sure of) in 1966, and still have it. I have two of my own that have been with me since new, plus one regular length Super Adjustable, a few years newer, but also mine since brand new. I like them very well, and usually leave them on a relatively high setting, "7" on the Slims, "8" on the SA. I was across town at my sister's when everyone was deciding to go out to a night club on short notice.

My brother in law and I were the same size back then, so a sport coat and slacks was no problem, I used his Fat Boy to shave. My fingers are comparatively longer than average; the shorter Gillettes typically "feel wrong" for several shaves before I feel comfortable using them. The Fat Boy seemed to have had an unusual head-light balance, which I'm unsure I'd ever be comfortable with. I haven't made any particular effort since returning to traditional razors to collect a Fat Boy.

I found a total of sixteen razors here at my place when I began really digging into various junk drawer kinds of places. There may be a few more I didn't find. I've bought half a dozen SEs and Injectors recently, and there were several razors I could've ignored, told the sellers to keep, as part of various "shave kits" they made up to sell, including a particular mug I wanted. So I now have an extra Slim, a couple of Gillette Techs, and a Black Tip Super Speed. Not all are even cleaned yet, and many of my older razors were Atras, which I was never a big fan of, but nevertheless turned out to have six of them.

Of all the choices, I like my Black Beauty (really a Slim, with an added end cap and a resin handle finish), and an old Schick Injector best of the lot so far.

Yep, Kiwi, that's why we always say YMMV.

I like the Slim and used one for 6-9 months or so. There's something about the Fatboy, though; the weight distribution? The higher dome, which people complain about, seems to make it easier to get the perfect angle, at least for me. I don't dislike the Slim at all, the but Fatboy just hits the sweetspot.

While I like the FB and Super Adjustable, the Slim is my Gillette adjustable of choice.

I think most will find one of the three designs to be superior to the others, with very few finding any of them unusable. While the basic design and functionality is the same between the three, each one is a different beast each with their own unique parts and feel. The handle diameters and lengths are all different, with resulting grip and weight balance changes.

At this point, I don't even have either (long or short handle) version of the Super Adjustable in my rotation . . . but I'd never tell anyone not to give any of the various Gillette adjustables a try!
