What's new

Gillette shave cream in tube.No more?

Is it really true that they have stopped making/selling this even to markets overseas, (non-North American)? I know a lot of people didn't like it, but some seem to have enjoyed it. I didn't even know it existed till I seen a tube of it in a combo sale on the B/S/T forum. Doing a search, it sounds like it was discontinued. Has this been confirmed?

(This was the gist of my original thread that was moved to shopping deals forum. I think loss of sleep made it a poorly worded rant. My apologies.)

Buy yourself a 3 tube combo of Godrej on Amazon and move on.:biggrin1:Stuff gets discontinued all the time. I see it as an excuse to buy and try new stuff! Never used Gillette shave cream, so I for one won't miss it!:001_cool:

A few years after after I started shaving, my beard had become relatively dense, and wasn't always easy to shave close. I was having to learn what to do for the best results on my own, and on a small budget. The first shaving cream I used was Noxzema, in the jar. I have a vague picture going back nearly 60 years, of a Barbasol cream in a tube, I think. None of the first ones I tried were a lathering type.

Gillette and Palmolive's creams in tubes were the lathering kind, and I did like them better. I have no idea how old it is, but it smells just fine -- I have a half tube of Gillette, and just used some of it a few days ago. Worked very well.

P. S. According to someone contributing to this now-elderly thread, it's been unavailable in the normal American retail channels for quite some time. I did find one online eTailer who previously sold it, but isn't doing so now.

If you're referring to the European Gillette cream in a tube, I just bought some from italianbarber last week. They have the classic and menthol for $9.99, and the sensitive version for $6.99. I got the classic and have used it twice. Pretty decent, though nothing I couldn't live without. Smells a lot like Godrej, i.e., not much of scent, just shaving cream. I used it this morning with my Razorock Black Hammer 3-piece DE, and had one of the best shaves in recent memory.

Also, +1 on the Godrej, as long as you're not sensitive to lanolin. It's a fantastic cream and can be had rather cheaply on Amazon.

Thanks!
I ordered some from Italian Barber's site. I appreciate your help!

The Gillette cream in tub and tubes have been discontinued by Gillette Brazil.Gillette Lebanon has ceased production of their tubes as well.I think if you are finding tubes they are unsold NOS.

I hate to hear that. I will use it and if I can't find it anymore, then there is always Speick.

I don't know if production ceased but it still can be very easily found here in brazilian market.

As it costs about US$ 2 I am going to buy about four units.

I bought two tubes one for normal skin with aloe vera and other for sensitive skin. Less than US$ 2.50 each.

By far worse cream I have ever tried. Smells bad, difficult to make good leather, no cushioning and dries skin.

Nivea "mild" shaving cream costs US$ 0.50 more but treats my skin MUCH better.

I won't miss this cream.

Rest in peace Gillette.

A member on another board wrote that it was sold in Canada til the mid-90's. I actually found some tucked away in a convenience store two years ago. It didn't say where it was made, just "Imported by Gillette Canada". Seemed the same as the European to me.

Can you please elaborate - what are you basing this on?

I base it on my observations that 2 years ago Gillette Brazil had tubs (2 varieties) and tubes (3 varieties) listed on their Corporate product sheet (online)..Today , both are missing from the line-up.

I had no idea that Nivea made a shave cream. I will have to look into getting some if it's as good as you say. What is the scent like?

Nivea cream it is not SO good in absolute terms.

It is much superior than Gillette cream for about the same price (US$ 3 or less).

But when comparing with TOBS or Musgo Real it is miles away.

Smells like soap.

Actually shaving cream sold here in Brazil is made by Procter and Gamble Argentina.

I remember I bought them once about a decade ago and it already was made there.

Maybe they really stopped to make them because it is not found anywhere like a year ago.

It is sold in two varieties: one normal with Aloe Vera and other for sensitive skin.

They looks like, feels like and smells like the same.

I have tried that before, almost the same ingredients but minus the propellants founded in most canned gels or foams.they also make moisturizing and tea tree oil varieties.
