Gillette products!

When i think of gillette today first thing that comes to mind is the awful razors they sell compared to the classics they produced, i use pre shave washes, exfoliators, moisturisers and a/shave but have never bought a gillette product of these products so my question is, are any of their products i mentioned worth a try?

I quite like their budget priced (less than $2.50 per bottle) Aftershave Lotions, and Balms. :thumbup1::thumbup1:

Sure the smell is a little bit synthetic, but they do a good job, giving a fair amount of alcohol burn.

My problem also; I hate their multi-blade stuff (not just theirs btw) and non of their DE blades is in my top-10 but a few are in my top worst DE blade ever. The only DE-razor I used was a G-1000 or 2000 and it was not impressive.....

Maybe when I would have grown up with their quality DE's I would have a positive "brand-feel" but as it is now I simply stay away.

Could you be more specific please or try to compare it with other products ?

The Atra is an excellent razor.

I cannot disagree since I never used it; 2-blades is the max I can use permanently without getting all sorts of skin problems so maybe I could agree.

I don't want to say Gillette sucks all over but from what I know and used I simply don't get a quality-feel; just another brand who's merits are mostly about branding and advertising. Not a benchmark to say the least...

talibeard, what razor do you shave with?

Top 3;

- Mühle R-41 ('09)
- Mühle R-89 ('09)
- Lord LP1822 (new merkur-like head)

in no specific order.

Furthermore I use the old R-89 (Mühle razor with Fatip head), the Merkurs C15, C23, C25, C33 and G37. Than there are the old Lord LP1822 (tech-like), the Wilkinson Classic (not my cup of tea), Lord L-111, a Dorco DE, an Astra TTO and some nasty GDR Golf razors...
Hope I got them all...

Awesome, the razor I have affectionately dubbed the "Lord Merkur Tech". It is the best deal to be had in it's price range, and shaves like a dream.:drool:

Unfortunately, it is not presently available in the US. :crying::crying:

Opps: looks like we are hijacking the thread again....

I have and use the Gillette series aftershave gel and I like it. I also have and use the aftershave lotion. They both just work and they are in-expensive and a great value for the money. The other things that is great is you can get them anywhere.

With a razor lineup like that, it is hard to find fault in not pursuing vintage Gillette razors.

I like the vintage Gillette products for the history, as well as the shaves.

From a practical standpoint, I would think a guy could never touch a Gillette and have a great wet shaving experience.

From an emotional standpoint, there is something about using a vintage Gillette that appeals to me.

Can't say that I use any modern Gillette stuff, although Gillette is now really just a brand name for Proctor & Gamble. Might check out the aftershave products after reading this thread, though.

+1, maybe it's an American thing?

Could well be, when i buy my shave products, apart from razors, i never even think of gillette all my pre/post shave products has never included a gillette product, apart from a few weeks ago when they were doing the anti perspirant from gillette for 50p.
