Gillette Ball-End Tech dating?

Okay, I wasn't quite sure what to title this thread as i'm wanting a bit more information than just the approx date. We'll get to that a tad later, though. Pictures first!




If anyone could point me in the right direction i'd be incredibly happy! (I looked at the ShaveWiki and I'm still not 100% sure so figured this was the best bet for now!)

The main reason i'm asking is because this is honestly one of my favorite razors. I started with a futur and after a few months i started alternating between that and this razor. This last week was gillette fatboy (on 5) week for me and i honestly prefer the head on this razor over the fatboy... It may be all in my head but it seems like this tech has a lower profile which helps me get a better blade angle even though I think techs are kind of known as mild shavers.

And finally, I'd really like suggestions on razors with a comparable head to this tech! I'm always up for a trying out a few more razors....RAD!

From the shape of the relief slots in the base plate, it is the pre-war (1939-'45) design. Many find this one to be slightly more aggressive than the post-war examples. The razor's weight is also heavier with the small-ball handle versus the bar handle, and that too will have an effect on the performance.

A razor's performance is due more on how you make use of it's performance characteristics, and not just those characteristics alone. The early Tech is a favorite of many!

thanks for the info brad! Good to know that it's a bit more aggressive like I thought, too! I just wish the handle was a tad bit heavier (that's one thing i liked about the futur)

I put a Tech head on a Tradere handle, and that is just about the perfect razor. If you can find a heavier handle, I highly recommend that combo.

Dang! that tradere handle looks a bit nicer than the weber bulldog handle imho

The bar handle (lightest of the Tech handles) is hollow and some guys have filled theirs with lead shot for more heft. Of course, that only works if you like your weight bias toward the handle and not the head. (Some prefer a heavier feel to the head for more "aggression.") YMMV.

I put a Tech head on a Tradere handle, and that is just about the perfect razor. If you can find a heavier handle, I highly recommend that combo.

+1. I mate my Tech head on the Weber Classic handle, fantastic shaver.

I really like the weight of the futur, it's just the head is so clunky and big! The tech is more like a sport's car than a bulldozer.

I went with a tradere handle after looking at the webers, BRW and the ikon bulldog.... The tradere just looks pretty classy. Thanks for all the awesome info gents!!!!!
