Gillette 7'O Clock

Hi everyone!

I have been working my way through a sample pack I picked up. I have worked through all the Lords blades that I have, none of which were as good as my Merkur blade. I have also tried IP Reds. They don't work well for my face, but they seemed to work ok for my wife's legs. Until yesterday, I hadn't found anything worth picking up.

I used a Gillette 7'O Clock Stainless Steel (Green Box) and had a great shave. I have heard that there is a Gillette blade that is in most B&Bers top 5 blades and I am curious what that Gillette blade is so I can try it out. My sample pack did not come with any other Gillette blades.

Any comments are greatly appreciated.

The Gillette 7 o'clock yellows are commonly considered the best Gillettes. They are my favorite Gillette blade that is still made.

Never tried the yellows, but the Permasharps (Indian) which also come in a green box, are really great as well, and are supposed to be pretty comparable to the yellow. Blades are one area where Gillette is still making decent products.

+1 on the India green packs. The Russian yellows irritate me for some reason -- maybe too sharp for me.

I think the "yellows" are ok, but not one of my favorites. I wonder sometimes if the majority of the 7 O'Clock lovers (and they are legion) are also using the older Gillette razors as well....sort of like a "designed for" characteristic. I have 2 Merkur razors and have had better "comfortable shave" results with Sharks, Crystals, and Derbys.

I should amend my statement to: I like the yellows in my Gillette TTO's.

I've been using 7 o'clock Permashape "Stainless" (Indian - Green).

They are nice blades they give a very comfortable shave but after a couple of days the blade showed the early stages of rust which had also started to mark the razor. Changed the blade and stripped the razor down (Merkur Vision) for a good clean and started again.

I like the yellows, except for those stupid spots of glue!!! :incazzato
 On some blades there isn't even any spots of glue.
It's slabs of glue. Massive piles that easily would be enough glue to hang a grown man on the wall :w00t:

Its such a great blade. WHY!?!

I think the SharpEdge a.k.a. Yellow's are the best Gillette blade and as far as the globs, drops and/or slabs of glue everyone gripes about they don't bother me one bit and I've never had any ill effects either in shave or clean up from them. I simply ignore the glue and enjoy the great shaves.

Yeah, I'm not really sure why people get so bent-up about glue spots. They don't leave residue, or make the blades stick to the doors or anything. I've never worried about them.

I use Permasharp (green Indian) and SuperEdge (yellow Russian) in a '52 SuperSpeed, '58 Tech ballend, Merkur HD, and EJ DE89L but will also slip a Derby into the HD or EJ at times. Mild(er) razors shine with sharper blades IMHO.
