Gillette 1909 Pocket Saftey Razor Price

I know a local guy who happens to have an old 1909 Gillette 1909 pocket Saftey razor with original box. The box/razor are now 100 years old and they tend to look every bit of it.. not in pristine condition but still with some TLC it would be a great razor I think. It also comes with a magazine ad for that same razor (guess he was thinking it would up the sale value).

He is asking $100 OBO.. doesn't this seem really high? What's a good offer price for it?

It all depends upon the condition of both razor and box and the completeness of the set. Is the blade case intact? Does the case clasp and hinges work? It also depends upon the set itself. There were many different sets from that era. If they are truly in rough condition then $100 is way too high. I would need a picture of the set itself to give a solid value.

+1

The early sets made by ABC for Gillette are things of beauty. In excellent condition they belong in a fine collection to be viewed and admired. Some sets will be worth more then others because of their ornate cases, solid ornate handles and their rarity. I have three sets. All are in excellent to very good condition and were made in 1909, 1910 and 1911. One of them is extremely rare and cost me $105. The least rare cost me $50. There is barely any plating loss to any of the sets, including the cases. If you are looking to "fix up" the razor to shave with you are wasting your money. Any Old Type with common handle will do the trick for $20 or less.
