Gillette 1904 razors acquired/cleaned [pics]

That said, I received my vintage Nov 1904 razors today that I bought off ebay 86.00... I think they turned out wonderfully. Two of them are the double ring variety and the other two I'm not sure sure! I sterilized them (unneeded probably but whatever) then shined them up a bit!

That's a Bell Tube Aristocrat?, which, IMO, are pretty rare, and a typical single ring.

Nope. If the eBay seller had them listed as double rings, you'd have good cause for a refund.

2nd pic, 3rd from the left looks like a Wade/Butcher handle with a Gillette head. Very cool handle, I just acquired one locally 2 weeks ago.

Nice haul, but, unfortunately, as mentioned above, there are no double rings. Bell-Tubed Aristocrat and Single Ring. Regardless, congratulations.

Oh alright! I guess my definition of double ring was skewed? For some reason I thought it was the type that unscrewed from the bottom and came out forming a inner ring and a double ring for the body... here are pics.

I thought the same thing when I first joined, no worries. That Bell Handled razor is sweet.
The Double ring refers to the rings at the top of the handle near the head.

Definitely try them. The Gillette Old Type head is moderately aggressive but once you figure out the optimum angle of blade-to-face, will give a very comfortable but close shave. Besides, it's just so damned cool to shave with a razor that's 100 years old! I usually use Astra SP blades in mine...seems to be the optimum combination of sharpness and smoothness.

I've heard that these razors arent very good shavers but im glad to see you had a good experience... the reason for this is razors are thinking now than they were made back when these razors were produced... went today without a shave.. its my day off.

I have a W&B DE head with that handle and also a Durham Duplex. It's the same handle: Durham Duplex razors. It's a pretty nice handle for switching heads on.


That's not a bad haul for the money. That Aristocrat is sort of scarce. What are the serial numbers on the Aristocrat and Single Ring?

I also see a Bell Tubed Aristocrat there. I don't see any double rings, though.
