Getting My Dad Back in to DE Shaving

So I got my dad a 1961 Gellette Superspeed Flare tip. I also got a horse hair brush from where I bought some stuff off a gentleman on here. So I gave him that. I gave him a tube of Bigelow that I got from the sale with Bath and Body works. He hasn't started lathering yet. We are on our way to that lol. For now he is still using the goo from a can. Barbasol. He wants to lather and I am making him watch the mantic videos and I am going to help him make some lather as a trial run. He is loving his DE shaves even with the Barbasol. He is having no irritation. Only had a couple of nicks. He is getting the closest shaves he has had in years. He used one for a long time when he first started shaving. He is pumped because he will save money. He isn't like me and will come to B&B and get AD. Lol. So I am able to share this love and hobby with him and he shaves at night so he is able to take his time and get in to his happy place lol. He is enjoying it and when he gets to making the warm lather he will love it even more. So thank you B&B and Mantic for getting me into wetshaving so I can get my dad into it so he can enjoy it as well. Just thought I would share a little about what is going on in my shaving life. I am waiting on some more items that I "had" to buy lol. I mean I had to have another bowl and a scuttle and some more soaps and creams and some veg to see if I am chosen and more blades and and and... well you get it. :biggrin1:

Very cool. Now show him all the croaps, creams, soaps and brushes that are available. He'll really start to save money :) Thanks for sharing.

That's great! I mentioned to my father that I was getting into this and he immediately expressed his total lack of interest. He started shaving this way and has no interest in giving up his electric razor.

If he keeps saving money then you can get him the luxury soaps and fancy brushes at holidays as gifts.
This way he still enjoys a full range of products yet saves money, a combination rarely found around here.

Dad returned to using Bic double edge razors and shaving soap because he got where he didn't want to pay the online prices for his injectors. He loves the mug, brush and soap but said DE was too ruff for him.

This is an awesome idea! Will most certainly do this!

Cool stuff, Im going to try to get my brother into wetshaving with a DE.

You should. Especially if they are not internet savvy and want to save money. They will then not be smart enough when it comes to the internet to come here. Unless you tell them about B&B and then you are basically telling them to spend a fortune lol

Well, he's internet and computer savvy but I highly doubt he'll go to forums and stuff. He def has the potential to save money... Knowing him, he'll probably use the razor with canned goo.

NOT THE CANNED GOO!!!!! You should make some lather with him so he can see and feel the difference. That should win him over. If not... then you must disown him!!! Lol

Update! My dad lathered for the first night tonight. Pretty good lather. I would have shaved with it. He is loving it very much and I am loving that he is doing it. He says it reminds him of when he was young with his father. Always watching him and the smell. It is nice to see him smile and be happy with shaving.

How does he like the horse hair brush?

He likes it a lot. I haven't been able to get to it to do some test lathering and see how it does for me. Maybe tomorrow... Just maybe... Lol. He is happy with it right now though. I made some lather last night with my Parker Premium Silvetip Badger brush. He seemed to really be eying my brush lol. I have that Parker and a Simpson Duke 2 that I have had for about a week and been using it. I just can't seem to get as good of a lather with the Simpson as I can the Parker. I want to love my Simpson so much, but right now we are just friends. I am going to give it some time and break it in some more and if it isn't the brush for me I know that someone on here would love to have it. So I can always sell it. We shall see.

Lol at ur dad eyeing ur brush.

I still have another horse brush I havent used and I'm thinking of using once and see if I'd like it enough to keep it, sand it down and staining it a darker color. If I don't like it I'll just give it as freebie when I sell something else again.

Maybe you should stain your dad's brush so that way he stops looking at ur brush, lol.

Lol. If he really wanted it and asked about it. I would give it to him. He is my father and that is such a small thing to do for the man that has and always will be there for me. Now I am thinking of just giving it to him......... Damnit.....

Lol, stain the horse for u then.

Haha. Everything he has I have given him so far in this wetshaving so he wouldn't take it. I gave him a new tub if TOBS Almond and a ceramic bowl to mix in tonight. He didn't want to take those, but I made him. I told him I really enjoyed TOBS cream and it was a nice luxurious shave for me and I wanted to share it with him. He couldn't say no when I told him that.

Great story! When I told my dad about DE shaving he tried to convert me to electric shaving. Then he told me BIC disposable were better... LOL I decided to forget trying to convert right there!
