Getting better at DE Safety Razor shaving.

So I think I am getting better at this... Tonight I tried this again... I got a REALLY good lather with some Parasso, and then I managed not to cause myself any irritation. Also, my chin is smooth, and never did that before. Awesome stuff!

Welcome to B&B mate.

Hang in there. My advice:

- No pressure.
- Learn your growth. You can google come face maps to understand your growth.
- Check out the WIKI. Great angle videos in there.
- Stick to WTG and XTG. Don't rush into ATG.
- Get a blade sampler pack (if you don't already).
- Get some Witch Hazel.

Whats your shaving kit?

It's funny how usually when people say "things will get better" they eventually do. There may be some snags along the way.... but overall things get better. DE shaving is a combination of so many different things to learn. Building a good lather with a cream, building a good lather with a soap, using a shave soap stick instead of a puck, bowl lathering, face lathering, using a solid bar razor, using an open comb, different blades, proper angle, no pressure, etc. It's alot to take in at first.... but once you start to get a routine down that works, all of it becomes more second nature.... and it's alot of fun. Then you start experimenting with other ways of doing things.... it's really an enjoyable experience. Welcome and continue!!

The ritual of DE shaving has been a part of my day since the 70's also. While I've tried 'lectrics and the entire cartridge experience, the brush and lather have never been very far away. With practice over time, it's as easy as brushing your teeth. You will get better at it and the physical advice is to let your razor do the work and simply learn how to drive the thing. Enjoy! :001_cool:

Wait till you see a straight razor that catches your eye

So you buy it,

then you go through whipped dog for honing, a poor mans strop kit, another straight razor, and then you even consider buying stones to hone your own..

It will happen..

It did to me :001_unsur

+1 Happened to me too, although I still mostly do DE's and actually get a better shave from DE's. It's a practice thing I guess.
That said, honing and restoring is fun, and a big DMT 12k and honing film kit aren't that much money.
