Getting a new fixed blade Merkur Razor

I am looking at amazon at several merkur razors.

I am looking at the 34C and the merkur chrome long handled Razor. I was wondering which one would be better. I have the Progress but I want to try out these and a few others. Possibly even replace the Progress.

I personally like a good bit of heft to a razor, not sure if the long handled version is better for handling, and the aggressiveness of the razor between the number 2 and 3 setting on the Progress scale. And I am open to other manufacturers of razors.

I hope to get a good fixed blade razor. All help is appreciated.

You might consider getting the Merkur HD or HD long handle. I believe that they are about the same weight. Then if you like how the head works, you can have cooncatbob make you a heavy handle.

Try the 23c with its long handle and moderate shave - it will be a different experience than the Progress.

Definitely recommend the 34C -- it's absolutely top notch. The long handled version is the 38C, and it is definitely heavier, but does have the same head as the 34C. The balance of the 34C is just perfect. The 38C is not quite as well balanced.

I agree. 23C is a very good, balanced fixed-head razor.

I later put an open comb head from a 1904 on mine and it was my go-to for a while, but RAD wanderlust pulled me away

+1 for the 23c, my favorite Merkur razor by far... was smoother for me than the HD
