  • Hi again Tom - I should have asked you this before:
have you been able to form an opinion as to whether the German-manufactured Wilkinsons available from the UK compare favourably (or not!) with the Brazilian ones that we buy retail here in Oz? (I sort of got the impression previously that maybe they weren't quite as good, but as they're quite a bit cheaper, maybe they're still good value?).
Haven't acquired a slant yet, but think I might order one soon, perhaps from West Coast Shaving - not sure whether to go for the short or long handle.
    Regards, Harry O'D
Hi Tom - thanks for the reply - I didn't find it until now - checked once or twice the 'personal messages' bit on the home page, assuming that your reply might go there, but as I don't really understand how these sites work, it wasn't until I actually went back in to your link at the top of the 'Wilkinson Sword' critique (in order to re-read it) that I found that you'd replied.
Sounds like I ought to search around for a slant!
    Thanks again, regards, Harry O'D
    G'day Harry

Sorry for the delay getting back to you - I just found this message!

In response to Q 1 - yes I have tried lots of others - Gillette Super Speed, SeaGull, Parker (yuk!), Feather Popular, Schick Krona as well as several other Merkurs (1904, LHC, etc). Whilst I still use my other Merkurs and the Krona from time to time, the Slant is really the best of the whole bunch.

Brazilian made Wilkinson Sword blades are available in most big supermarkets here, or Priceline stores and the quality is excellent - but they can be expensive. You can go to blademail.co.uk and get them from the UK quite cheaply (these are made in Germany but are still quite good). Feather blades are excellent too and can be had locally from mensbiz.com.au (talk to Nathan there; he's beaut to deal with).

West Coast Shaving also stocks Wilkies and his postage rates are very fair.

    Hope this helps!

    Tom H
I read with great interest your post earlier this month - two questions arise; (1) have you used other razors than the M/Slant, and is it really (really!) worth tracking one down in order to try? and, (2) I've just 're-discovered' the Wilkinson Sword, (which I bought retail here in Australia a year or so ago), and, after working through many, many blades from a sampler pack from the U.S. I now find that the Wilkie is giving an appreciably better shave than either the Feather or the ('Swedish') Gillette Platinum! I'm truly amazed! (Using a 1968 Slim Adjustable). Question: have you found a good source for the Wilkinson Sword yet, either here or overseas? Best regards, Harry O'Donovan, Mullumbimby.
