Gerber Bootknife - What can you tell me about it?

Howdy All. This Gerber boot knife was my fathers, and I know he thought it was pretty special. It is in pristine condition, and I am trying to figure out what to do with it. Can any one tell me anything about it (other than the fact that it is illegal in some states)? Any idea what something like this is worth? It seems to have a serial number stamped on the blade - on the other side of the knife in the same place the Gerber Oregon USA stamp is.

Thanks in advance!

What you have there is a Gerber MKI Commemorative Edition model. I have it's big brother the MKII...both have Zebrawood handles and a brass hilt.

Thanks for the info. Looks like it is worth something like $200 based on my research. I might call Gerber on monday to see if they can give me the exact year on it. I have a lot of things to remember my dad by, and really don't have much use for a boot knife other than putting it in a drawer - so I might be selling it to some one who would appreciate it. I enjoy much more carrying his buck 501 that he carried every day.

One thought though ... your children or grandchildren may well take great pleasure in owning this knife (long before they can pry that 501 out of your cold dead Charleton Heston hands.)

Thank you for your thoughts, but I am not one to stockpile goods where moth and rust can destroy…
