so while on the web site i realized that it is a maine company and has a store in freeport. OMfG! i walked past that store 24 hours ago while going to The Beans.

"We wants it, we needs it. Must have the precious"... G5 with out 11$ S/H :w00t:

sorry there is so little to gloat about up here.

I was up in Freeport a few days ago. Stopped by the store and they had 6 scuttles on the shelf. Lady said they can't keep them in the store. Very nice scuttle but they didn't have the color I wanted. :(

I have one of those (hamada and blue, I believe). Very attractive.

Good for 3 passes (usually the fourth is more room temperature, but that's good for most days).

They also make a brush scuttle (there is a thread around here somewhere about it)...I ordered one of those as well, as somedays I like to use a hard soap and face lather, it all depends on the day. Same color options, but it isn't listed on the website, you'll have to call.

I use water straight out of a freshly run electic tea kettle. So pretty hot...but I let it soak while I prep (shower maybe, pre shave oil, soak brush in top of scuttle, choose soap/cream/razor/blade/AS/cologne, then shave).

Like the cork to keep the water hot, simple but great idea.

That's what I thought. My scuttle has no cork (hole is wrong shape) and I was worried I had missed out on something important.

But now I've done some tests. My scuttle has a thermal half-life of 55 minutes. That is to say whatever the temperature difference between the scuttle and ambient air, it takes 55 minutes for the temperature to drop half way. :thumbup1:

I ordered one of the "minor seconds" in ivory and green oribe. It came in yesterday and had only one small pinhole in the glazing.

I filled it up, put the whole thing in the microwave, and got it nice and hot. Lather was still very warm to the touch after my third pass.

I didn't go wrong at all for $30 plus shipping.

Here is a shot of both of my scuttles (received the lathering scuttle for Christmas, and the brush scuttle from Christmas money). Merkur 33c for scale.

Nice looking scuttles. I've always felt the Georgtown scuttles were the best looking but found the Dirtybird the best performing.

I have only used the G5, haven't had a chance to use the brush scuttle, as I have just received it. But, I wouldn't mind trying the others.

I will have to wait a while before trying a different brand of scuttle. My wife bought this one for Christmas and to get another may not be well advised. :-\

I have a question for owners of this scuttle. I have been considering this scuttle for a while. I love the look, but is it worth the money? What do you like the most about it?

I have a question as well. Why in the world would you need hot water for 55 mins? How long is it taking you to shave exactly? Just curious.

Worth the money for me.
It's really nice to go back to the brush for the touchup an buffing 15 minutes after starting and smoothing that nice WAAAAARM lather on my face!

My only complaint is a catch-22.
It's deep, and I routinely end up with enough lather for 4 passes more than I used.
But the depth does result in the brush handle and my fingers often banging against the rim... also makes a bit of a mess of lather on the brush handle.

So a more shallow bowl would be nice... but at a loss of capacity.

I ordered a Robert Becker scuttle (the black one on his site), as in my opinion, it looks to be the best scuttle out there. I say this because it too has a rubber stopper to help keep the heat contained, but it also comes with a lid, to keep even more heat it. Makes sense to me for them to have a lid...teapots have lids too for a reason. Just my 2 cents...

Hey Pozzska, got any more pics of the brush scuttle? I'll be getting the G5 for Chritmas but might ask for the brush component as well just curious what the middle looks like and such, also did they offer the brush scuttle without the handle?
