Geo. F. Trumpers Rose Shaving Cream

Hello gentlemen,

Having just used up my first tub of shaving cream (Salter's Almond), I'm looking at what to buy next.

I've been reading good reviews about Trumper's coconut shaving cream, and I was just about to order some from a website I found. But then I came across another cream in the trumpers selection:

I am utterly fascinated by the colour. But I don't know if it's any good or not. I'm trying to search the forum to see if anyone has written anything about it, but I'm having no luck. Has anyone here tried it?

There's some reviews at the bottom of this page:

hmmmm...interesting. *strokes chin*

Looks pink, foams into a white foam, smells divine.

You must enjoy the rose scent, but this is more of a "manly" rose.

Follow up with some Penhaligon's Elizabethean Rose, and you will enjoy it.

(I know that Penhaligon's says that this is for women, but I find the scent truly unisex.)

Shoot, you're in London. Scoot on over to the retail store and get some samples before you purchase.

If you are looking for a rose scent, I think the T&H is a better product. Nicer scent, great shave, less colorant. Similar story for Salters and Taylor. I personally don't care for the Trumper.

If you can find the old formulation of the Taylors (perhaps some left in tubes, none in tubs), then this is the best choice of all. good luck.

Is the T&H rose hard to find? I just looked on Classic and the T&H site and Rose wasn't one of the flavors.

thanks for the replies. :badger:

I'm not specifically looking for a rose scented cream to be honest. I just thought I'd ask about that trumper's one because it looks so delicious and tasty. Good enough to eat! :001_tt2: Plus I really want to try a Trumper's cream, as I've never used one before.

So I guess if it's a choice between Trumper's Coconut and Trumper's Rose, I should go for the coconut. Ok cool :badger:

I tried a sample of T & H rose, and while it did smell great and it gave me a nice shave, I got a slight irritation on my neck area. So, I guess it's just not for me.

Although it appears that the GFT Rose is no longer in inventory. You might want to consider this offer here before you make any decisions.

What other fragrance do you guys detect when smelling GFT Rose?

I tried it for the first time this evening and there is something other than rose that I recognize.

There's almost a smoky base to it.

I'd be very grateful if someone could help me identify this

I think there is a very faint cedar component. The old Taylor Rose had this even more strongly, but alas, it is no longer.:mad3:

Very true...I was lucky to order a new tub prior to the change...now it gets used less in the rotation as to make it last...:frown:

British Isles does in fact carry T&H, as well as GFT. Unfortunately, no Taylor though. If you go there, be prepared to pay. My tube of GFT Rose (tube not tub) set me back 17 dollars.

Looking forward to trying it! I just bought a brand new tub from a member of another forum

for $14 shipped! Outstanding price imo.

Just tried a fresh tube of Trumper rose. I like it a lot - nice smooth lather, great smell, very smooth shave. I agree with other posts that a slightly less vibrant color would be OK. As a bonus, I noticed that it was hard to shave without smiling because the smell was very light and pleasant. Some of the heavier scents somehow make shaving a more serious activity.

This was the first "luxury" cream I tried, so in my completely unexperienced opinion I LOVE it. The smell is fantastic, sweet, flowery, but still characteristically masculine. Good balance, and not too overwhelming. It lathers great, even with a crappy brush like mine, and doesn't leave as much of a "waxy" feeling as I got with my mug soap. I highly recommend it, especially if you can get someone to send you a sample.

As an aside, I'm making you my new honorary best friend on the board just for your username. I LOVE Kasabian -- I saw them open for Oasis last year and I'm seeing them at the Grog Shop in Cleveland (1 block from my apartment) later this month. I hope you picked the name for the band, and not the Manson clan member, or some other obscure meaning. Either way, mad props.
