It is just shaving, but then BOSC came along. In the end however, all razors do the same thing in the same way with the same blades. I like a razor that suits me and my technique. I want the razor to match me and how I want to shave. I dont want to match the razor, although I can if need be.
Gold Grande is that razor for me. Best looking razor I have, most efficient, smoothest, amazing balance. It gives an exceptional, comfortable shave. I’ll continue using the other two open combs. They are not in the same class as the Grande. I cannot use them the way I use the Grande. First off neither razor comes close to the Grande‘s balance. Grande’s teeth are the most comfortable. Grande shallow and steep angles are more intuitive. It is the most maneuverable razor of the three.
I prefer night shaves, always have. DE shaving ten months in. I have a good grip on brushes and soaps. The Grande keeps getting better. I’m where I want to be. All aspects of my shave mesh smoothly. The Rose I liked the first time and this time more. The fragrance comes on and than nicely fades into the shave. Using a silvertip for decades has spoiled me. This brush performs well in all categories. The dog bowl I’m using for samples blows me away, it works so good. First face pass I wanted to revert back to steep angle and short quick strokes which is my preferred style. In cart shaving I used medium to long strokes flexing my wrist. A Mantic YouTube I watched is where I learned short strokes with a locked wrist. I have naturally become quick and it just works real good for me. The Grande is so comfortable in my hand, I don’t really feel the razor at all. I take quick swiping strokes and I just feel the blade edge I just know where it is. That is the best way I can describe it. Going through six day whiskers was smooth with almost no audio. The steep angle was the way to go and I could have easily done a two pass DFS. I was not trying to get that close. Pass two for a split second I started to consider shallow or steep. Reflexively I started shallow and pass three was also shallow. Hardly any clean ups no buffing at all. No alum feed back, above average BBS. I have never tried to shave my preferred style and technique with the open combs. I was nervous with all them teeth. Now I think I’m real nervous to use a razor without no teeth.
The first head pass I used a hybrid stroke kind of half steep half shallow. I can start steep and finish shallow or vice versa all in the middle of a short stroke. I am not sure if I described it right. The second and third passes were all shallow. I did not think or try to choose any type of a stroke or angle everything was reflexive and it really felt like I was observing a shave. First head shave ever, no clean ups no buffing, BBS. I just don’t see myself looking for a razor a brush or anything else. This might not be my end game, but I am in the ballpark. I will be ordering a back up Gold Grande.
