G1 Fat boy quarter turn issue.

Hi All:

I have a minty G1 Fat boy. Everything works fine except the quarter turn adjustment is a little sloppy. When I turn it to the full stop, the lines on the handle don't match those on the TTO knob. So what I have to do is turn the knob slightly to the left to even things up and I can hear a soft "click". Once done it shaves as well as expected, but it does this every time I lock it down. Is this normal wear and tear?

Thanks for any suggestions you might have, including living with it. :wink2:

Cheers,

Joe

If we are talking about the knurled lines then I can help. The handle and knob are different diameters, so look at the spot that lines up and ignore the rest. Not sure about the click thing though??

Thanks Tom, if I ignore the rest and find that sweet during the quarter turn the razor works perfectly. The click sound happens if I tighten the TTO knob too far and then turn it to the left to align the lines. Simply lining up the lines resolves the issue, and none of this affects its shave.

It sounds as though when you tighten it all the way up and spin it a little to the left you're simply relieving one of the components that kind of bind up to lock the blade assembly into place. I would ignore it and the fact that the lines don't add up on the handle. As Tom says its a difference in circumference that is culprit here. I've had many a Fatboy and slims apart. In fact I had 72plymsatellites apart last night.

I've never heard about the lines being astraight signifying anything. For the Slim and FB, twist to snug and then just a bit more for lockdown. The last 1/4 turn only serves to keep the TTO knob from untwisting during a shave. If yours is staying tight, no need to tighten further.

Thanks gentlemen, that answers my questions. And to the poster that mentioned I might have OCD, I wouldn't judge without knowing the person behind the post looking for answers. Cheers.

No offense was meant I'm sure. OCD is a recognized and accepted form of behavior around here. :001_smile

Thanks Tom, it's easy to forgive. And I could be guilty of OCD now that I think about it. Regarding shaving and razors I want to learn more and the search is unquencheable. :001_rolle

I have two black beauty's that do not 1/4 turn. I've been soaking them in dish soap for 24 hours. Now 1 does the 1/4 turn. The 2nd will soak for a couple days. Thanks to the members who recommend the soap soak..
