Fresh blade or sensitive skin?

It seems that when I switch to a fresh new blade I tend to get a lot more weepers and tend to get more cuts on my neck, especially on the first shave. However, it seems the more I keep using the fresh blade, the less and less I get them. Is this just because the hairs are wearing down the blade making it just a little more dull and thus not slicing my face up as bad as the previous shave, or could this be a sign of sensitive skin? Maybe both? Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated.

I used to get this. I have pretty sensitive skin and noticed all blades gave me a lot of irritation, regardless of how mild or aggressive they were supposed to be. I strop all my DE blades on my forearm, maybe four or five laps, prior to my first shave. Haven't had any irritation since I started doing that. Just remember, PULL the blade toward you, don't PUSH!! :p

Cheers,

M.

I view "sensitive skin" as skin more easily irritated by chemicals, usually detergents in body or some face soaps, canned shaving cream, etc., not something associated with nics and weepers per se.

With a fresh blade I typically adjust technique...even less pressure and more attention to non-flat areas...or risk a weeper.

I'm not familiar with this. How do you strop a DE blade, and especially on your forearm?

Also I have heard Geo F Trumper Coral Skin Food and Geo F Trumper Rose Shaving Cream are great products for sensitive skin and have been thinking about trying them. Anyone agree/disagree or if the product would help?

Thanks again for the comments and advice.

Similar to stropping a straight. Difference is that it's your fingers holding the blade instead of the shoulder of the straight, and you have to change sides so both edge of the DE get stropped. Check out this thread for better instructions:
