What's new

Fours years of using soap/cream and a brush, and I finally did it.

Just ordered my first puck of Tabac, and my first Arko stick. Both will be here in a few days. Finally, I get to see what all the fuss is about.

I wish I'd gone four years without smelling those two. Tabac is great soap, though. I hope you like them.

I don't find Arko to lather up well at all. So I either have a terrible technique or my water sucks.

I may try grating it into a puck as maybe it is face lathering. Because I can't get Palmolive stick to lather up either.

I have not yet tried Tabac.

Believe it or not, I'm actually looking forward to findiing out what these two polarizing soaps smell like! I'm also very curious to try using a shave stick. I'm not usually a face latherer, so I'll probably bowl lather the Arko at first, but will definitely try face lathering at some point, to get the full shave stick experience.

Don't worry about grating Arko, it's soft and squishy enough to where you can just tear off a few chunks and mash it into a bowl with your hands. And, you don't have to worry about Arko-smell in your cheese grater :wink2:

I crammed two sticks worth of Arko into a Mystic Waters tub about a month ago and it's been performing admirably.

You have now entered into a bigger, brighter world. Those two are some of the best lather producing soaps ever. You are in for a treat!

Both are great performers, and I myself enjoy their scents. Their lather is potent and requires a lot of water. I've read that some shavers find them drying, but I find this not to be the case as long as you keep adding water to their dense lather.

The Tabac came in today. Upon opening the package, I understood a little better why it was $28. This is quite a large puck of soap! It'll be years before I finish that thing off!

Anyway, first the scent. Not too bad. Not the best smelling thing in the world, but in no way unpleasant. I could easily live with using it every day. So, I took it to the sink for a test lather. Put a little water on top of the puck, and started soaking the brush. Came back two minutes later, and the water had soaked into the soap, and turned into a soft film on top of the soap. This made me excited; I haven't used too many soaps, and the last soap I remember absorbing water this quickly was AoS tallow, which I loved. As for the lather....well, it was awesome, of course. Can't wait to shave with it tomorrow!

Tomorrow afternoon, I should be receiving the most polarizing soap of all; Arko. I'm looking forward to it.
