What's new

Found this in an antique store today-Gillette 1921

Not sure if this is the original intended color or if the plating has worn away. If it is the proper color, what more can be done to restore it to it's proper state? Pretty decent shape mechanically though. Says it was made in Canada and the serial number is O11139. Got a blade bank and a case out of it as well.

Originally a gold plated razor, possibly still a gold plated razor.
It looks pretty dark. Does it have a reddish hue?
The lacquer they put on the gold darkens and turns red.

Get it replated back in gold if after a clean it don't shine. Use Scrubbing Bubbles and toothbrush to get it back to life.

Came with this case too. Forgot to include this in the first post. It does have a bit of red with a bit of some darkened areas on top. A bit like its been corroded. So no polish on this guy I'm guessing?

I think it cleaned up pretty good. Can't believe it's the same razor. I'm hooked. Somebody plan my intervention. I can see how this can be addictive

That's a Milady New Deluxe. And it looks great.

Though it is not from 1921. 1921 was the start of the "New Improved" style, and there was a Milady much like that, same handle and case, but made for a 3 hole blade. I don't know what the date is on yours. EDIT: oh, I see it's a Canada version. Not as much is known about Canadian serials and their respective dates.

Yes, the plating has probably worn off the head on the very top. Not from use, but from being in that case. The Milady cases were the least forgiving that way. Most others offered some padding.

Very nice find! I'm jealous. All I can find around here is worn out super speeds and locked up slims. I've started calling friends of mine in small towns all over, asking them to look & see what's in the little flea markets around them!

Thanks a million for all the advice and feedback. Got a pretty nice shave from it too. Not the best but not bad at all. Looking for more of the open combs.
