What's new

Floating soap=Super warm, luxurious lather

My routine has gone something like this:
  1. Fill sink with hot water
  2. Fill mug with Hot water
  3. Place mug in sink
  4. Place brush in mug
  5. dribble some water on top of soap
  6. Shower
  7. Refill sink with Hot water
  8. Drain brush
  9. Drain water from soap if any
  10. Load brush
  11. Face lather
  12. Place brush in dry hot mug which is sitting in sink full of hot water

I always had a nice warm soft brush before, but the soap was obviously cold, and left me with a less than warm lather

Yesterday, I decided to vary this routine by allowing my Mikes soap to float in its tin while showering. Wow, now my brush loads easier. The lather is nice and hot. In addittion it seams to lather easier.

So my new routine looks like this:

  1. Fill sink with hot water
  2. Fill mug with Hot water
  3. Place mug in sink
  4. Place brush in mug
  5. dribble some water on top of soap
  6. Place tin or tub of soap in water gently, so it floats without soaking the soap unduly
  7. Shower
  8. Refill sink with Hot water
  9. Drain brush
  10. Drain water from soap if any
  11. Load brush
  12. Face lather
  13. Place brush in dry hot mug which is sitting in sink full of hot water

I guess you learn as you go.

I hope this helps someone!

I too have used a version of this by using a warmed mug. I face lather also and in between passes I'll put the brush into the warm mug to keep the lather from cooling.

Not meaning to talk bad but im a little eco friendly and i dislike wasting water that way. yet i cant think of another way of getting warm lather so im usually stuff with cold lather.

There's an easy way to get a warmed mug effect. Fill the mug halfway with water and microwave it for a minute. Then the mug is warmed.

I never tried Mikes, but most hard pucks I keep in the mug. When it's time to shave I rest the brush on top of the soap, fill the mug with hot water (but not too hot for the brush) and soak both brush and soap at the same time. Shake out the brush, pour the water off the soap and lather away. I like to keep things simple.

Find a way to justify floating your tin of soap in the coffeepot in the morning to your wife.

I myself find that face lathering with hot water (either in the brush with the wet method or added from a mug with a drier method) gives me nice warm lather. Either way it'll be cool before the pass is finished. The face has a lot of surface area so if your lather isn't cool before you finish a pass, then you are laying that lather on ridiculously thick (or shaving in a matter of seconds... and I'm a pretty fast shaver).

Using a hot mug to store the brush between passes keeps later passes a bit warmer, but also tends to deflate many lathers, requiring additional working to refresh them during later application. Some soaps can handle it, others can't.
