Flipping the razor blade

Hi. Second time shaving on a DE razor and I am enjoying it. Seems to be a closer shave than the disposable ones I've used in the past. Do any of you flip the blade over periodically to perhaps get the "undulled" side for the next shave? Does this make sense? Am I wasting my time?

Hi,

I use two razors for two passes each morning. A new blade goes in razor One on Monday and Thursday. The blade moves to razor Two, and gets flipped over in the process. So, a blade gets used for seven days and is flipped over on day four.

some flip the blade, most don't. it's up to you.

it seems most DE blades are only good for 3-5 shaves so it's not like flipping will extend the life. they are cheap enough.

I recommend you use it 3 or 4 times then flip it into the bin and replace it with a new one.

flipping rotate front to back or take the blade out and flip it over top to bottom?

Ah! I guess I wasn't specific. Flip top to bottom. I thought that maybe shaving from the other side's edge would extend the blade's life...

I tried it and did not see any difference. Still lasted me 5 days.

The cutting happens at the edge and flipping does not expose a new edge, but it does not hurt anything and gives you a chance to clean the razor.

Just be careful not to knock the edge into anything, nor should you try wiping the blade dry. Some blades even have "do not wipe dry" printed on them. Anything that comes in contact with the edge of blade could cause a slight burr which could translate into an uncomfortable shave at best, or several nicks at worst. 2 things to know if you should drop a blade.... A. DO NOT TRY TO CATCH IT, this is a sure way to need stitches.. B. If you drop a blade, just grab a new one. They are dirt cheap and dropping and bouncing could very easily lead to damage to the cutting edge.

Yea, as others have said, I also suggest that you just use new blades and don't push it. When I was brand new at this I tried to save blades too, but I quickly got out of that phase. I realized that blades are the cheapest thing that most of us use..... and they have such a HUGE impact on your quality of shave. To me, it's not worth enduring a bad shave and the irritation for the next day or so and the ingrown hairs for the next week or so just because I was trying to save 10 to 35 cents on a blade and get an extra few shaves out of it. But that's just me.... do what works for you!!

+1. I've tried flipping the blade with a few different brands, doesn't make a difference. Each edge of the blade is fully exposed when you're shaving so flipping it doesn't really do any good.

I confess as a relatively new DE shaver that I too "flipped" the blades over for the first month. I stopped doing this and just use the blades on one side, open the razor heads just to rinse and then put the razor (with the blade still inside) back to wait for the next shave. Skip the flip!

Flip before every shave. You may use the numbers on the blade (if any) to memorize which side you was using last time ;-)

Nope, both the top & bottom of the edge are worn when the blade cuts a hair, so there's no advantage to doing so. But, I do flip the razor back-to-front between passes, so both edges get used.

I wipe the blade daily after use to clean any build up which the rinsing does not clear. It stops any crud drying to a crust on the surface. I just flip it when re-fitting but I don't think it makes any difference to it's performance.
