Flea Market Find!

Had an interesting day today. Was supposed to ride a ridiculous distance on a bike (bicycle) today, and got sidelined by rain, grit, cold, and two flat tires a fair distance out. However, I did manage to flat right near a Flea Mkt.

I stuck my neck in the door and hollered 'Got any straights in here'.
'Yeah, we got one. Come on in'.

Cool. So I go check it out and it turned out to be an 11/16 Torrey (I'm ~ 30 mi west of Worcester, MA where they were made).
And I asked 'how much do you need for that thing?'.
'Oh, about 10 bucks.'
'OK, deal. I'll see if I can't get that baby honed up.'

He says 'Oh - we got a hone over here, too.'
'N/S - whaddya got?'
'It's just this old barber hone'.
(Inspecting the hone) 'OK - whaddyou need for the hone?'
'Ten bucks and you can have 'em both.'

OTAY!
Took my hone and razor and then hitchhiked my own bad self back to my truck at the start of the ride. Haven't had to do that for a while (like about ~1972 to be exact...).

Razor has some pockets of rust but looks to be in ~decent shape. No pitting or corrosion near the edge, and little hone wear. Scales and pivots are near perfect. The hone is actually kind of coarse. I'll have to check that out. Anyway, good deal on a crappy day!

There's a cause for applause

It confirms my suspiscion that the majority of people are just like I was, totally unaware that people were retro shaving or that a shaving community even existed.

I saw a couple of straights at that converted school house for about $15-20 each but there was no brand name so I passed them up. But I was pretty sure that some people here wouldn't have passed them up.

Congrats. Please show us a picture after you tune her up.
