Fitjar soap (vs cream)

I have a Fitjar Calmomilla cream that I like a lot. Well, it's a hard cream or soft soap if you wish.

Fitjar also makes soap. It also comes in a similar looking jar, not as a puck. So what is the difference then and if you tried both the cream and the soap which one did you prefer and why?

When I was deciding between a soap and cream from Fitjar, I chose the cream for two reasons:

1. The ingredient list was much shorter
2. The manufacturer said she was most proud of her creams. I got the impression she was still working on perfecting her soaps

Not sure if this helps though!

We dont see too much from Fitjar around these parts. maybe because they're overseas, maybe because theyre on the pricier side (regardless of shipping)

However, the soap maker seems to have a phenomenal handle on what we need and seems to be making a very seriously high quality product. not to mention that her demeanor seems to be lovely.

it would be great to see some more opinions!

I should have the East Indies soap sometime this week. I will do my best to keep you informed. Keep in mind that I have never tried any of the Fitjar creams, but I think I've tried enough soaps to give a fair opinion.

@SirWhiskers: This type of soap should be right up your alley!

I have been shaving with a lot of cream samples from Fitjar and I am very impressed. In my last order I got two soap samples which I will try in due course. However on the subject of creams, Mrs Hernes has added Shea butter to her creams and I find that they tend to have less cushion than the ones that do not have this ingredient. Has anybody else noticed this?

I have used both and I think the soap takes a bit of extra work to produce the lather but both creams and soap provides with excellent shaves. Her scent are very intriguing and the Neroli AS balm excellent

Dear gents, I have just shaved with a sample of the Fitjar Telemark soap which I got for free after ordering a dozen cream samples. I am very impressed, the soap lathers very well and has staying power, it's slick although not as slick as tallow soaps but it has fantastic cushion, touch ups are simple just rub the area with water and then shave over it, it has been an hour and ASB still seems totally superfluous so moistuization is not a problematic issue. Last but not least the scent is fabulous, picture yourself walking into a shipyard in the 17th century, a heavy but not pugnent smell of tar, absolutely delightful.:001_tt1:

Tar you say? Not sure I want to smell like that... Good to hear the performance is great though.

The question is are they as good as the creams? That's what I want to find out from those who had first hand experience with both.

The answer is, if you have tried her creams then you will know how good they are. Any soap half as good is ......the dogs danglies.:thumbup1:

I shaved with a soap sample called Lime Twist yesterday and I was a bit disappointed, the lather was rather thin and airy and was not really as cushioning as the Telemark. I am not really into the lime-citrus scene in soaps and creams because they invariably remind me of toilet cleansers so I do not think I will re-shave it to find out if I just messed up the lather.

I join the choir of "if the soap is half as good as her creams". Atm I'm using a tub of Miklagard. I really love the scent, and the lather is the best !!

I have both the Fjellheim and Neroli scents (the latter is my favorite) and they are among the top 3 soaps I've ever used. Aaaaaand I've used a stupid number of different soaps.

As far as availability goes, while Fitjar is pricey (and worth it), shipping to the USA directly from Norway wasn't much of a problem for me. YMMV.
