I went from a Merkur 34C to a '60 Gillette Superspeed, and won't look back.
That 34c cut and nicked the crap out of me, but I have yet to cut myself with the Superspeed. Just an awesome shaver all-around, espicially with a Feather blade. Get a great shave everytime.
My thought after my first SS shave? Shoot! Gillette perfected this razor thing a long time ago! That was after nearly three years with a 34C. I like the Slim Adjustable even more! Having said that, I still consider my 34C my daily razor and keep going back to it. Just a bit closer than the vintage Gillettes.
I have three SuperSpeeds - a 1957, 1965, and a 1972 - which belonged to my father who passed away ca. 30 years ago. For nearly all that time, they sat unused, even a couple of years after I started wetshaving. Finally, I decided to try one out and they are great razors..
1960s flare tip shaver here too, love that razor! I also have a 1940s SS and I prefer the 60s flare tip; its smoother for me, the contruction feels solid and it looks fantastic.
Congrats! I started with a 34C myself in 2008 then switched in 2010 to a No Date Code Super Speed, and then bought another. The only change I would make now would be to a Feather Artists Club. I absolutely love my SS!

P.S. I firmly believe that the NDC SS (or a model shortly thereafter, caused Gillette to realize that they had perfected the razor and that their revenue would top out, then fall, unless they came up with some new "innovation" to foist on the masses in order to drive consumption of high-priced blades.
Beautiful razor. These vintage pieces are the best. My first DE shave was with a birth year Gillette black beauty super adjustable long handle version. I just love it!
Haven't found a bad razor from Gillette so far. Some may be better than others, but never a bad one! I do shave with a Merkur 33c occasionally, but keep going back to the vintage stuff. I do have several from other companies, including the Maggards, but always seem to fall back tp vintage gillettes.
Thanks all. I shaved with it this a.m.. I had to double check that I dropped a blade in it. Very comfotable and easy razor to use. No wonder why these are at the top of the recommendation list for new DE users. I want a black handled 1973 (birth yr) next.
I have a couple of those SS flaretips and they are excellent razors! I reach for one of the SS flaretips at least 2-3 times every 2 weeks with a Astra blade and I always get a BBS shave with no irritation....
