First Try Making Bay Rum

Two weeks ago I tried making Bay Rum aftershave. The ingredients were:

2/3 Vol Vodka
1/3 Vol Rum
Bay Rum Leaf EO
Sandalwood EO
Allspice
Peppercorns crushed
Cloves
Ginger slices
Cinnamon stick
Lime skin
Calamansi skins

Let "brew" for two weeks in airtight container ans stored in a bathroom closet.

Took out today and decanted in another container using five coffee filters, added glycerin cut with some isopropyl alcohol and some tea tree oil (probably a mistake with that as the oil appeared to not mix and stayed on the top) and plan on letting settle for a few days to see if any remaining debris settles.

It seems much stronger than the bay rum aftershave I got at Sally's Beauty Supply and seems to last. Hard for me to describe the smell.

Will try some Sunday morning for Church and see how it works out! :thumbup1: or :thumbdown

My wife asked whether we were going to use it to marinate a steak with it!

I tried making my own bay rum about a year ago and it turned out OK. I regret adding glycerine because it made my face feel sticky. I also used essential oils which took a few months to mellow out before it smelled like I expected it to smell. Initially, it was strong and rather pungent.

Tried the AS today. Mild on the skin and pleasant smell that is more complex than the Masters Bay Rum I got at Sally's Beauty Supply. Wife likes it so it is a keeper. Next time I may put in larger amounts of some of the ingredients and will likely add more lime and calamansi rind to increase the smell of citruis. If I was grading my result I would give it a "B" grade, good but can do better.
