First time face lathering

And boy was it nice.

So far I've only bowl lathered using either soap or cream but today I decided to see how it felt. Loaded up some AoS lavender real well and began building a lather on my face. Right away I could tell it was a lot easier to gauge the slickness/cushion of the lather and water appropriately. Added a few drops of water to my brush here and there and was amazed at the quality of lather I achieved.

I normally lather in my scuttle and get a pretty darn good lather, but today's face lather was probably my best lather/shave with a Red IP and my 60's SS. My 1.5 DB Scuttle may be a bit large for face lathering but it still kept my lather nice and toasty as usual (maybe due to my large, 24mm, brush).

Exactly! It's much easier to tell how the lather is doing when it's on your face as opposed to in a bowl, and to work at accordingly. It also felt better spending a little more time brushing my face.

Not only do you get that feedback but you also work that lather on your face longer which results in better exfoliation and beard prep. Face lathering is the best.

keeping the lather warm in my mug is nice, but face lathering is definitely quicker.

I'm doing it a lot due to time constraints, but find my lather is up and down because of it. I don't know how to gauge whether it's good or not when it's on. With bowls I can check it first and see/know where it's at.

I face lather all soaps. Some creams get bowl lathered.

agreed. I'm a face latherer. I get great shaves,.

I still get the mug out on weekends and make a production out of it...I love the ritual.

Had the same epiphany myself. I sold my 1.5 and it was sent to a good home. I used the proceeds to buy another brush scuttle from Dirty Bird and it turned out perfect. Works like a champ.

I guarantee there will be someone on these forums to give your 1.5 a good home.

I tried face lathering today as well. Seemed great for the first pass then the second lathering was too wet. I guess I need to practice some more.

Face lather w/ soaps, but I use a bowl with all my creams, I don't know why, but with cream I feel like I get much more lather from the bowl using the same size dollop of cream.

I only face lather when I'm on the road....I have never found much of a difference.

Yep, I've been face lathering since day one and at this point I don't see a need to change that.
