What's new

First slant shave

I had already loaded the Merkur with a brand new Crystal blade last night so it was all about the prep this morning. Worked up a wonderful lather on my face, massaged it in well, heated a towel and applied it, fully enjoying the steam. Removed the remaining lather with the towel and re-lathered (my many thanks to Kyle for this). Picked up the slant - "I am not afraid" kept going through my mind. Oh the horror - thousands crying out "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" and in the background some strange singing.

Swiftly and deftly those whiskers were reduced to near nothingness and the first time I've really understood "singing" razor - my other DEs give auditory feedback but not like this. Two passes for one of the closest, smoothest shaves I've ever enjoyed. No irritation - the alum block found no "hot" spots at all, no blood either.

Just wanted to post and provide a moment of light humor to all on a Saturday morning. Thanks to everyone here for enabling all the ADs of which I am gladly afflicted.

Apologies for the highjack, but if you think that the slant is auditory, you really need to try an SE. I have both and there is no comparison on the sound. A 1912 paired with a Pella, is like nothing you have heard before.

I've been really interested in slants, one day I must give myself a chance to pick one up and try it out!

I agree with the closeness of the slant, but I have to add that it's no forgiving Tech either.
Used mine for the first time this am, and have a spot on my upper lip and on my chin that reminds me every time I look in the mirror that it's a whole different animal than your average DE.

Maybe my name description was a foretelling of the future.

Styptic addicted indeed.

Sorry, but how was the shave?

Sorry, but how was the shave?

The shave was excellent, very very close, no irritation at all (which surprised me due to the semi-quasi-comb style of this razor).

My jawline is always trouble and my neck which has a swirled growth pattern, and they were both very smooth, not BBS, but very smooth.

I'd say that except for the lapses in concentration that resulted in my nicks, it was a great shave.

This razor is in my rotation for a week, and I always start a new razor on Saturday am so I can work the bugs out by work Monday morning. I'll let you know how it goes.

Sorry if I managed to hijack someone elses thread, not intended, just answering questions.

The Barber Pole Slant is a tremendous razor. It has Primacy of Place and honor among my DE Razors.

Windwalker is right. The Futur gives even more auditory feedback, and a 1912 with a Pella is very much like the barber using a straight on you.

Seriously, a Barber Pole Slant, a Futur, and a 1912 SE with Ted Pella blades and you will not need any other razors in this lifetime. Want is a whole different animal.

The Slant is great tool to work with! SE or Open Comb might be something else to try if you haven't already!
