First Slant shave

Got my Merkur 37G today and it gave me a great shave with my usual Astra blade. Usually with my HD I have touch up after 2-3 passes and tonight I was able to do a WTG pass and a WTG/XTG pass and was DFS. No touch up on the usual trouble spots. Of course I think I used a little too much pressure but no irritation or burn, just anxious to use it the first time. Truefitt and Hill Trafalgar cream/aftershave with witch hazel before A/S. Night gents.

I love my Slant. My other razor is a Futur.

Honestly, I think they both shave about the same level of closeness. Plus, the Futur seems to keep the stubble away longer.

However, the Slant gives me less irritation around my neck. So I love both my razor children and both will see plenty of use.

Plus, the Gold Slant just looks so darn purty.

P.S. I met my wife by at the copy machine at work (a previous job). I told her I had a song stuck in my head; when asked what, I told her "Have you ever heared of Dream Theater?" It was These Walls from Octavarium.

Good song. I've been hooked on The Count of Tuscany lately.

I've been wondering about the slant. Are there any special directions to use it?

No not really, the angle is almost the same as the HD, it took me about 1 or 2 swipes to figure out the correct angle. If anything just be a little more careful.

A 34C is next on my list. After that it's a slant. I only want the 34C first because I have a 38C and want to see which length handle I like better before buying the slant.

My advice to you is...never do the "Gillette Slide" with a slant. The combination of an angled razor and an angled motion to shave = a disaster waiting to happen!

And thus, another slant fan is born!

I have a Slant HD and a Barber Pole (Sledgehammer) Slant along with a Futur.

By far, the Sledgehammer gets the most usage, followed by the Futur and the HD Slant.

The Sledgehammer does an outstanding job of cutting and slicing the whiskers. If you've been thinking about getting one, don't hesitate any longer. Your only regret could well be why you waited so long!

I'm lusting after the gold slant and have been thinking very hard about saving up to get the Elite Razor guy to build me a long-handled gold slant with onyx that would weigh in at 4-5 ounces.

Can't justify the expense in any way but I still want one.

I picked up a slant a couple of weeks ago and have not been able to put it down. I am glad I took the plunge and got it. It is going to stay in my rotation. I think everybody should try one.

I have to tell you that Gold HD Slant is a sweet, sweet razor. The Gold makes loading the blade a lot easier. Why can't Merkur make a Gold Barber Pole Slant?
