First shave with MdC

My MdC arrived today. 6 days from the day ordered. Not bad at all. From the other threads I have read on this soap, I feel my experience was similar to many. My Duke 1 was a bit too wet at first and it took a moment to build a good lather but once it started, it wouldn't quit. I loaded the brush for 10 seconds and made a total mess. I had enough lather for 3 passes and a bit left over but not much.

The scent is nice and changes a bit once lathered. I have quite a few soaps I enjoy and using this in the rotation, I can't imagine needing another jar anytime soon. I know none of my comments regarding this soap are novel, I just wanted to share my experience.

Overall, I am very glad I added this soap to the rotation.

I just got a sample from Garry, not a tub. It lasted 6 or 7 shaves, with lather flying everywhere. Loved it.
I found other things I love, too (soap and cream, both) and don't know if I'll be getting a tub of MdC in the future... the postage premium is very off-putting for one, though people say if you break it down by pennies per shave, it's still a good bargain.

Wonderful news, Joe! :thumbup1: Also, don't you find MdC particularly good for straight shaving? :straight:

Marco- it was very nice! My lather was a little too thin at the onset but a little more face lathering and it produced a great lather. Subsequent passes were wonderful. A very nice addition to the rotation.

Congrats on your acquisition! I love mine. Having had it in my rotation for a few months now, I have barely made a dent in it.

I got mine for Christmas. I find that starting with a wetter brush and making a bit of a mess makes the best lather with MdC. Starting a little wetter and working the lather a little gives me the best results. MdC likes water.

I got some very nice lather and boy did I make a mess.

After doing some research for my next soap to buy, this came tops. I've ordered a tub.
I wonder if this could topple the MWF from its almost permanent pride of place at the front of the bathroom shelf...

Is there room for both at the front of the shelf?

It has for me! Don't even restock MWF anymore. But I suspect I'm the minority there.

Whoa! From all accounts MWF is really good. No reason not to have it sit next to it. I have MDC next to my $10 Proraso. Like both for different reasons.

For me, it's a no-brainer: MWF causes me too much sensitivity with all that lanolin, so I use my MdC proudly and don't have MWF in the house either!
It's surprising that the MdC is a vegie soap but it really works a treat. No sensitivity at all, very slippery lather for a straight razor shave and works a treat on thick/tough beards. In the past I have used it to shave 6 weeks' growth right off. I didn't even nick myself once!

+1

Haven't managed to do a 6 week growth in a long time. SWMBO is not a fan. But if I did manage to get away with it, I am sure a MdC lather would do the job no problem!

Seriously - like a blow-torch through hard butter!!! Never seen anything like it in my whole wet shaving life.
