I received a couple of gillette blacks from a generous member here. In anticipation I held off shaving for four days. This is the first time I have accumulated that much growth since starting with a DE razor. I was expecting the tuggy painful shave I got with a mach 3 after a weekend of not shaving. I lathered up with GFT Coconut and got to work. The blade proved plenty sharp and cut through the growth with ease. No tugging. My first n/s pass took most of the acumulation off and I was left with the fining that comes from my second and third pass. Very smooth razor and no irritation. This newbie likes.

Thanks for the post. As a newb myself pretty much I am still experimenting with blades also. I just ordered some Bluebirds and now appears I need to order some Gillette Blacks. I work shift work so I tend to let my beard grow while on a 2-3 day night shift swing. This sounds like a blade I may like a lot. What razor were you using the blade in? OPen comb etc?

I used my only razor, a Merkur HD 34C. I have been feeling my face all day and most of it is BBS with a couple spots of DFS. If the longevity is there, these will be a keeper.

Second shave was not as nice experience. Seemed to have to touch up a lot. Some weepers and a slight burn. Could be my technique but I have been doing well for the last 8 or so shaves.

Weird, now it feels as though I have the best shave yet. I need to give my face 5 mins before posting results. Still a little burn but BBS.
