First Shave with an ER 1924

I recently picked up a mixed lot of razors that included a Tech, an Injector Type G, and an Ever Ready model that I hadn't seen before. After searching around here, I discovered that I had gotten what I think is a 1924 in fairly nice shape for little more than a song.

I decided to give it a try this morning, and wow! I had heard that this was pretty aggressive razor so I wasn't sure what to expect. I have tried an OCMM a couple of times and also a 1912, and have not had the best experience so far. The technique is still going to take some time with both. My experience this morning with the 1924 was not what I expected at all. I saw a posting that included a picture of some instructions about the angle needed so I just followed that. The 1924 really sings when cutting whiskers at the proper angle. I found that I could keep it right by listening to the sound. Two passes (WTG and XTG) with just a touch up here and there gave me a great shave. There is certainly no temptation to use too much pressure with this one. Anyway, I am looking forward to trying this one out some more.

The 1924 is an aggressive razor. I have a 1924 and a 1914. The 1914 is also an aggressive razor but I find it to be smoother than the 1924. You have to try one of those next. I think you will like it. You can tell a 1914 by the words "Lift Here" stamped in the top piece.

Here are 1914's. One I changed the handle on. The 1924 and the 1914 are both great razors that are on the aggressive side. They can both give you a nice smooth and close shave. Enjoy ...

My favorite SE so far (I have yet to try the OCMM that I picked up in December though). Do yourself a favor. Pick up a 10-32 stainless steel setscrew. You can use it to adapt the Shovel Head to your DE Handles. Mine feels way better with a larger handle on it.

I've been a fan of the 1912s for a while now, and have recently acquired a 1914 and 1924. I really like both of them. I'm not sure which I like better, but find both to be more forgiving than the OCMM. I don't know what it is about the Ever Readies, but even with my 1912s the ER is my favorite.

I found the 1924 to give me a better shave on a first try than the 1912 or the MMOC. We'll see how it goes on further tries. For whatever reason, for me, the 1924 was easier to find the right angle on a first shave. It's now more than 12 hours after my shave and I'm still amazed by the smoothness of my face.

Yes! The 1924 is one of the loudest razors in my experience, and when you hear that sound of buttering the toast, you've got it. I think the 1924 is as aggressive (or efficient if you will) as the OCMM, but much smoother and more comfortable. The early ERs are very under appreciated razors IMO, and if you like the 1924, you should definitely be on the lookout for a 1914.
