First dress watch

Good afternoon gents.

As I near my 30th birthday, I realise that I really should be getting a proper dress watch for evenings out.

I'm all but set on the Hamilton Jazzmaster Square (black face, brown band, code H32415535).

Having never bought a watch that cost more than $150, I ask can anyone recommend a good place from which to buy this watch?
I'll be in the States in a few months so I can buy from a b&m store, but also don't mind buying online.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT - note that I said '...all but set..." ;) I may be swayed in the direction of some other sub-$600 watch

It's funny that you would ask that.....I've been looking at Hamilton for at least 5 hrs. yesterday!! Google Hamilton watches...start at the top and work your way down.
Then Google Hamilton (model #) watches and work your way thru any missed....Let us know your top dealers and see the feedback from that. Good luck.
Hope to hear soon....:thumbup1:

Never owned a Hamilton watch, but the style of that one looks nice. I like it with a brown leather band.

I'm starting to think maybe it's a little large :(
My wrists are really quite small, and the face would take up the majority of my skinny little bird wrist.

I'm gonna have to try this on my wrists when I'm over in the States. I really hope it looks alright on my arm, because as David said, the black face with brown band looks a corker.

Don't worry about it. I have skinny wrists as well, and most of my watches are large. I think it is fine. In fact, sometimes little dainty watches can actually accentuate the fact that your wrist are skinny.

What I do, is take the measurements.....Like 40mm. round or 30mm x 44mm rectangular, cut it out of cardboard tape it on my wrist. See how it looks....:001_cool:

Another watch with Jazzmaster-esque styling and in the sub $600 range that I have been looking at is the Orient Bambino... nice modern size automatic, but not IWC or Breitling big... relatively thin profile and a nice clean dial... it is available in gold, rose gold or stainless case with either black or white face and black or brown strap. I particularly like the black with gold case and dial accents and black leather strap.

Cheers, Don

Haha funny you say that - I did exactly that yesterday before I posted that I think it might be a bit big, using a post-it-note that I cut to size. It's not too big in the depth (across my wrist) but depending on how the bracelet falls it may look a little clunky.

It might be a little wide up my arm.

I would try going to a brick & mortar store. When dealing with a high end item like a nice dress watch, I would want to talk to someone about it, even if it is just to make me jazzed to buy it. The other thing is that those types of places usually have exemplary customer service. I got a nice dress watch when I got married and I can always take it in to get "detailed" so to speak and if the band ever rips they will replace it for free.

Josh is not incorrect in his statement. You should try it on, sample some of the collection and enjoy the experience of a brick and mortar high end watch store. Over the years, I've found that I tend to know more than the sales folks about 80% of the time, but you can't beat having it on your wrist at a bare minimum to see if you like the look and feel. If you're going to drop the coin for a nice watch, then you should consider a test drive.
