What's new

First 100+ year old razor purchase

I'f I read the date code right, it looks like I got a 1909 Pocket Edition. I got it from a man locally who said it was his grandfather's who was a truck-driver and only used electric shavers.

The velvet inside the case is in pretty bad shape, but I guess it's to be expected with this much age.

Looks like an Empire Set, Very Saught after set.

Also it's the most detailed sets in the ABC family )

They sure are prety with all its details.

Use some White Tooth Paste, Colgate works well, apply with a soft tooth brush rub it back and forth, left and right so you can get all those details cleaned, then Rinse it and scrub it clean under running water, works well on plated surfaces.

Congrats on such a nice set )

Im sure someone will be able to recommend something that'll do the job, but i understand if you don't want to touch it with anything :) Looks amazing as it is.

Beautiful! That latch-style closure was the first one that they used on these ABC sets, so the 1909 date you got from the serial number is right on.

I've seen very few gold examples in all my travels here on B&B and on ebay. Phenomenal!

IMHO, there is absolutely no reason to shave with it, unless it's for the thrill of saying you used it once or twice. You can get any number of single rings that will shave substantially the same.

Is the gold plating on the case still there? Or were just the razors gold plated? There is a small green spot on the case (pic 1) that looks like the corrosion that usually forms on uncoated brass.
