What's new

Finally got my NEW #77: A Global Effort

I got this nifty #77 from one of our wonderful Swedish members who had it replated in England by Onotoman in silver. It made its way to California and the case was an awesome PIF from Taco8slo. It's funny how things come together. Will report on the shave later.

Sorry for the poor pics but the case is a neat bakelite dark green.

I shaved tonight. The set-up was:
-#77
-KAI blade
-Bob Farvour TGN finest brush
-Muscgo Oak Moss Cream
-Booster Moss Wood splash

I did 4 passes. The first pass was loud. I hadn't shaved in a couple of days but man, you can feel and hear this OC in action. It was loud and the hollow handle amplifies the effect. It didn't feel as aggressive as a FaTip but felt like a streamlined LC NEW. It's a light razor with a thin handle which may be annoying for some. The balance is just right, the head is solid and leads you in the right direction. The ATG pass feels just right and not awkward in any way. I blade buffed for my last pass with ease. One tiny weeper in the mustache area but not a problem after some alum and cold rinse. No razor burn and took care of my stubborn areas like the whirl growth on my neck. The Booster Moss Wood complimented the Oak Wood quite nicely too.
Very impressed with the razor and it's a keeper!

Congrats! I have the same set, which I found with help from Mark1066 and Joachim. It's one of my favorites -- maybe my favorite set. Very hard to find, I think, although I was lucky. The #77/#88s are terrific shavers too. About as good as it gets for me.

Thanks Alex. I've widdled down on my brushes. I have a few more Omegas and Semogues but these have been my main brushes lately.

Very nice! In my book the #77 is very easy to maneuver around your face due to its´ delicate and slim lines (hard to describe this accurately). I find that these are pretty aggressive but not overly so. I said it before and I say it again- these two piece razors were the most beautiful OC Gillette ever put out!
Congrats to the beautiful case as well. Those green bakelite cases look smart indeed!

Last night I loaded it with a Red Personna and was very impressed with the smoothness and BBS finish. In the past I considered that blade too mild but it served it's duty.

I only used Feathers until I got a #77/88. I find Feathers to be a little harsh in OC NEWs, so I use Astra SPs in them, and they've served well. I tried a Feather in one again recently, thinking that maybe my technique had improved to a point I'd like them better, but it was much the same.

Yeah, I'm liking Feathers and KAI's a lot lately but with OC's I've been rotating Rubies, Personna Meds, Astras (great but boring, if that makes sense) and now the Reds. It's funny because I can load an R41 with a KAI or Feather and get smooth shaves but those blades in a LC or SC NEW are a little rough.
