What's new

Christmas in July!!!

Once again the generosity and kindness expressed here on B&B by its members visited my home. After a long work trip, I arrived home last week to find a package from overseas. I don’t get packages from overseas. I only get packages from Amazon with my wife’s name on them.

To my utter shock and surprise, I found it contained a beautiful 1930’s Swedish Swing Razor and a soap from The Gilded Hand Masterly Shaving (which I could not decipher without help since it was in Dutch) sent by my friend @Guido75.

Christmas in July!!!!

Here are a couple of photos of his most thoughtful and wonderful PIF:

Sadly, I was called out unexpectedly for work (and I won’t take any of my precious collectibles on the road for fear of losing them during travel), so the final shave report will be forthcoming. I just staged these pre-shave pics to confirm receipt of his PIF.

(For the record, my travel razor is a 1951 Gillette Superspeed I purchased in an antique store for $10. If I lose that, I’ll buy another one for $10).

My Thanks to B&B for supporting such a fine outlet for our shared passion and a membership so rich with thoughtful, generous, and honorable people.

Special Thanks go to @Guido75 and @JAHE for becoming such good friends. Two Guidos. And before B&B, I didn’t know a Guido! Go figure.

Best Wishes Y’all,

Curly

Santa here  . I looked at my naughty and nice list and concluded you were definitely on the nice list (B&B members are only naughty when they say they have everything they need and then still buy additional stuff!).

Thank you for posting. You are an example of that B&B spirit and generosity you mentioned. And I applaud you for it.

Enjoy the razor and soap to the max when you have the chance. The Guidos on this side of the globe perfectly understand what it’s like to be called to work! Or at least I think that’s another thing Guido @JAHE and me have in common .

I will admit that Guido and I did discuss this surprise and I am thrilled it actually was a surprise because you were out when it arrived. We cannot plan this, but how cool is that?!

Best wishes my friend!

Guido

Santa's little helper here. 🤣

It's awesome that your plan has worked out so well! 😀 @Guido75
👍👍
Me thinks you two have collaborated on the “Christmas in July” endeavor.😳

One of you co-conspirators, @Guido75 or @JAHE, have let the proverbial “cat out of the bag” on the behind-the-scenes correspondence on this topic. However, I cannot thank @Guido75 enough for such a thoughtful gift!

Now to the first shave:
Loaded the 1930’s Swedish Swing Razor with a brand new Nacet blade. Whipped up a nice lather of TOBS Sandalwood cream, one of my better-half’s favorites. Prepped my ugly mug in the shower and went after my whiskers cautiously, as @Guido75 indicated I should be careful.

I’ll apologize to @luvmysuper in advance. This combination shaved me better than my 1951 Superspeed which is my most favorite travel razor. It also shaved me better than one of my Toggles, though I may not utter those words out loud in my shave den (that the wife still insists in the “upstairs bathroom”).

To remove any suggestion in my mind that this was a “fluke”, I selected this razor again, though it was three days later before I needed a shave. I tossed a Polsilver, courtesy of @JAHE, into the almost 100-year old shaver. Painted my face with TOBS Royal Forest also courtesy of @JAHE, and then commenced cutting whiskers.

As much as I hate to admit it, I got a second shave as close and painless as one of my Toggles or many other of my daily drivers that I paid a great deal of money to acquire. So maybe it is the wand, not the magician. This is an exceptional wand on my ugly mug.

My heartfelt thanks to the only two Guido’s I know! I have a new daily driver from Christmas in July.

I am very glad it worked out this way Curly. The Swing is one of those stealth razors that flies under the radar yet is rather expertly build and designed to deserve done more attention. And these PolSilver blades are phenomenal as well!

Enjoy your shaves!
