fendrihan brushes?

I have a cheapo omega brush (10065) that you guys are telling me is actually not a bad boar brush but I want a stand for it so I was looking on fendrihan and i can get the stand or a stand AND their own brand of grey badger hair for just 10 dollars more so I'm thinking about grabbing it. Has anyone tried such a brush? Is this even a better brush than the omega boar brush I have? I know it's not silvertip but I like the faux handle and wouldn't mind giving badger a try. What do you guys think?

For $10, why not? It will probably be scritchy, but also provide good contrast to your Omega. If you don't like it you can sell or PIF it and can say you have experienced pure badger. Just don't judge all badger brushes by the performance of that one as there are several levels of quality available.

Well what I really want is the muhle version 2 synthetic but it's not in the budget right now. I just looked again and it's 14 more than just buying the stand alone. I was hoping someone had some experience with them but like you guys said, why not for only an extra few bucks. Would it be softer than a boar brush even though it's not silvertip? I don't find my board brush scratchy and it seems to do the job just fine but it's also my first brush.

That was my first brush. It works, and its a badger, that's all I can say about it. However it was prickly, and it only suitable for bowl lathering.

I would recommend a whipped dog silvertip in the same price range.

so maybe just order the stand alone and then wait until i order what i REALLY want? why was it only suitable for bowl lathering?

Mainly because the loft size was too big, and the prickly nature of the trimmed bristles made it uncomfortable. A larger loft makes the brush "splay" a lot more covering a larger area, it also lessens the backbone of the brush.

Personally in this price range, I'd get a whipped dog silvertip (~$25-$30 shipped), a synthetic, or a boar. Fendrihan has the HIS 1794 synthetic which is miles ahead of the pure badger and its only +$12 more. Whipped dog has a synthetic too which might be OK. Also you typically you get free shipping after you spend a certain $$$ ($50 for Fendrihan), so it might work out cheaper to get a slightly more expensive brush.

i already have an omega boar that seems to do the job. maybe i'll just wait till i order the muhle brush.

i just read all the reviews for the 3 brushes alone (without the stand) in different handles and almost all of them are very positive. the review below pretty much sealed it for me... I just wanted a stand but i might as well order them both and get a new brush and stand for an extra 13 bucks or whatever.

Considerably higher quality brush than the 16 dollar boar brush found at the local pharmacy. The few extra dollars are money very well spent. Keep in mind this is a very large brush (check out the knot size). If you have a goatee you may find it slightly difficult to navigate around- otherwise you\'ll appreciate the extra heft. For an inexpensive brush I was very surprised at it\'s quality!
