Feather RG v SS

Hi I am well into straight shaving and i use all my razors in rotation. Because I go abroad a lot I take My Feather Professional Artist Club RG with me. I now see that Feather have a new one out called the SS are there any improvements over my RG one? and should I invest in one. Many Thanks for any advice given

If your happy with the way your RG shaves then no you shouldn't invest in a SS IMHO. Some find the SS easier to shave with as they seem to be more forgiving. I didn't have that experience and actually found the RG much better shaving (sold my 2 SS razors and kept the RG and DX models). But you could look in BST for a secondhand one and try for yourself as everyones experience might be different.

I have both, and both are great shavers. I started with the RG as my first straight, and learned to straight shave on it. I still use it often. The SS has a different head shape which does make it a bit more forgiving. Actually both are capable of giving really nice shaves. I find it nice to have some different types of straights in a rotation, all my straights use disposable blades, just for the opportunity to use a different straight depending on the feel for that days shave.

I like the RG better. It seems more substantive than the SS. The SS has a funny fluting on the edge of the holder that claims to protect you more - which it might but I didn't notice it that much. Both give good shaves. If you think you should have only one and the RG is in your hands, then your mission is complete. If you like to collect them a little (and I do) then the SS is a good shaver, too.
