Well boredom and desire make for a few hours of invention. I wanted to see how feasible it would be to try my hand at easy scales for a Feather RG.
I love the razor, but I hate the look of the scales or rather the housing that engulfs this razor.
I am sure this has been done before somewhere on a straight razor. I wanted to see if I could replicate the idea with simple hand tools and items about the house.
I used a coping saw, a sheet of 220 sandpaper, Minwax Sienna red stain and clear coat lacquer. The wood might surprise you,,let me know,,,lol.
A wooden dowel connects the pinless side of the scales and serves as a plug.
I used the same washers and screw from the RG. Unfortunetly I drilled the hole lower than I should have. This whole process was done as a templet just to see if it had potential. Total time to make this;maybe two hours. Again I had no precison tools. This was roughed out by eye alone.
Next attempt will get much more detail and I will play with the design to be more like a "real" straight razor.
I would love to hear your thought on this.
Thanks.
