Fair price for 1970 P-1 Super Adjustable.

Guys,

Looking for a birth year razor (yep, 1st qtr 1970) and I've seen wildly varying prices from $15-90 on the Bay (seen a restored one on Razor Emp. for more...). Anyone who can advise on a fair price would be much appreciated by yours truly.

Cheers.

A working model in good shape should be between $25-$35. This is all parts working, no box, a few blemishes. In other words looks good, but is one for you to use rather than to collect.

I'd say more like $35-45 because it's harder to find one where the paint is in good condition. When there used to be a lot of razors sold on B&B a few years ago, I don't ever recall a nice one going for only $25. But that's just the way I remember it.

I picked up all my P4 dated Super Adjustables for the $25-$35 range, in good shape with paint in the numbers and such. I'd not go any higher than $30 for the Super Speeds, personally, if I even went that much on them for good shape user grade.

I too think $25-$35 seems fair. Super Adjustables for some reason tend not to bring the same money as Slims, and Fatboys do. A stance I find odd, since in my opinion they are the best shaving of the three.

I recently scored a mint Super Adjustable from 1973 (all paint intact in the numbers, nice and shiny) off Ebay for $25 shipped.

The key is to look for items that are not properly promoted: not fully descriptive titles (Gillette Adjustable, instead of Gillette Super Adjustable), and items for which there are fewer photos, and the photos are not professional quality.

BTW, the only one you may end up paying a bit more for, if you want one in your birthyear collection, would be the gold plated Super Adjustable, date code P1 (they only made them in like the last 1 or 2 quarters of 1969, and the first quarter of 1970, from what I can tell). Even then, unless it's minty in box, I'd not go higher than $45.
